UK copyright laws "needlessly criminalise" music fans and need to be updated, a consumer watchdog says.
UK laws that make it a copyright violation to copy a CD that you own onto a computer or iPod should be changed, says Consumer Focus.

I can never be bothered with downloading movies. I'm on Love Film so I just get them from there. I like to watch them on my TV not sat at my PC, I spend enough time there as it is.

^^^ Movies on you pc can be streamed to your TV for better viewing pleasure

Anywho... if it weren't for bit torrent, I wouldn't have discovered so many different genres of music, new talent, new artists... its mind blowing what you can find there..

not to mention the countless bootlegs, rarities, demos etc that are never released as albums to buy...

If I like what I hear I support the artist.. its that simple. I don't like it, I get rid of it.

i think that pretty much sums it up on how people get music these days since the internet/download boom and with internet people actually discover more music than they ever would have if we had gone thru the old conventional ways of hanging out at the record store on new release day

the funny thing is that since day 1 the big money corporations (i.e RIAA, MPAA or whoever thats pursuing the lawsuits) never did embrace the internet and think of new ways of making use of the internet to make the money that they claim that they lost and they never once look within and come to terms with the fact that people are not buying CDs are not because of the internet but because of the crap that they put out (i.e the paris hilton album or That's What I Call Hip Hop Vol. 236475)

i also dont understnad why they were done for just 17 files.
were those 17 different in someway to the other 100,000?

IF they are guilty for those 17 why not the rest?

                        was just wondering

Its crazy for anyone to think that policing the internet in any way (short of Governments involvement on a national level) is possible.

Didn't know the details ... but yea its too absurd that its only the 17 files... That makes no sense whatsoever.

had been following this for a while and noticed the verdict the other day. i'm astonished. i read where a year or so ago one of the guys from tpb was quoted saying, "i believe we have a greater chance of being struck by lightning than being found guilty." Suppose this opinion was based off of law alone and did not take into account the power of the almighty dollar.

Just a couple of hour ago, this breaking news article was published on the webpage of SR (Swedish National Radio). It unveils how the judge of the The Pirate Bay spectrial is actually an active member of the Swedish copyright lobby.
