I fucking hate this practice...seems so fake with australians..with croats or serbs ok I can tolerate it and fake it better...but Even when I had a girlfriend and we'd greet another couple I would try and avoid making contact or even moving towards my friend's partner...often creating an awkward situation.

I am a bit of a cunt though.
