    Happy Earth Day!

    Happy Earth Day Everyone!

Make sure you are taking the time today to do your part for Mother Earth. You can do something as simple as:
    1. Recycle
    2. Walk/bike to work (if you can)
    3. Turning off a few more electrical devices when you aren't using them
    4. Re-use plastic bags when you go grocery shopping, or buy a few of the reusable ones (they aren't more than $1-$2 usually)
    5. Turn the temperature down a degree or 2 in your home
    6. Buy Organic!

If everyone does one or 2 things, it will make a huge difference. So remember, every little thing you do counts!

      Re: Happy Earth Day!

That's great recycling. I do all of the above as well EXCEPT buy the reusable bags. If they are the same ones we have here they are the biggest con of all time. I don't take plastic bags full stop !

They are made from fossil fuel derived plastic! They can not be recycled. They all carry advertising, a lot of which says "Say no to Plastic" ??? So we are paying to carry these around while the supermarket laughs all the way to the bank!! They are made in china and you can bet your cotton picking socks that they don't cost them that much. !! They are even designed to sit in cars rather than be carried. !

I use calico bags , I make swish ones for friends , [William Morris Etc] A lot of stuff actually doesn't need to be bagged at all.

I even make my own laundry detergent Works really well, and I can use the water on my garden !! Just quietly most of the things I do actually make my life easier. Simplify

HAPPY EARTH DAY !!! Now where are the guys

How do you make your own laundry detergent?
I've got bags of baking soda and plant derived soap here at home.
Suppose I could look on the net, but I'm curious how you make yours.

It's really easy, Btw a lot you find have borax, Borax is not a good thing. I find one batch lasts over a month it doesn't take long to make, certainly less trouble than shopping and carrying home. It works really well . It's very cheap too!!'

It is supposed to be very low sudsing, if you have suds you are y using too much.

WASHING SOAP (LAUNDRY/KITCHEN), HAND CLEANER, GENERAL PURPOSE CLEANER RECIPE:

          10 litre recipe
          What you need:

100 grams pure soap = 1 cake purest soap -Velvet not generic

          1 cup washing soda-250grams

          1 cup white vinegar-generic

          3 teaspoons eucalyptus oil

A teaspoon lavender/ or other essential oil for perfume

          6 litres of cold water

          4 litres of hot water.
          What to do:
Grate the soap or slice strips off with a vegie peeler and place into a large saucepan and cover with 2 litres of cold water.
Bring to boil & add washing soda crystals, and stir until melted.
Stir in eucalyptus oil, vinegar and essential oil.
Pour into a bucket and add 4 litres of hot water and then stir in 4 litres of cold water. It;s easier to decant when warm because it does turn to jell. But if you don't you just have to stir it to liquify.

          Good when used for:

laundry detergent for front and top loading machines and hand washing. 1 - 1.5 cups depending on load size

pre-soaker for heavily soiled items

Mix it with Bicarbonate of soda for a creme cleanser . Half fill jar with this and then add bicarb to fill . Great for sinks, stoves baths etc. !!

          Shake well before use!!

          My contribution to Earth Day.

It's dead easy. !! I keep telling people it is actually easier to be green, people get too complicated. As I said simplify. In that spirit microfibre clothes and a spray bottle of water do an amazing job. Our consumer magazine did tests, and they work every bit as well as chemicals.
