Is progressive house in New York dead?

Hi everyone, I moved from Peru to New Jersey three years ago, oviously when I go out to party my destination is always New York City. When I left all the parties in Peru were about progressive house, I had the oportunity to listen djs like Sasha, Digweed and Cattaneo. Since I'm here I listened Mr. Digweed aswell but his set was more techno and tech house, and Cattaneo he always loyal to progressive, the think is I'm trying to find progressive house parties and it seems that now there's only house, techno and tech house in New York, Is any of you New Yorkeans know about some good proggy venues out there please let me know, I will appreciate. Thanks.

Where have you been the past 5 years? There are hardly any more champions of prog as we knew it.

there are some extremely knowledgeable [ms]'ers whom i'd imagine got quite the low down, as far as nyc goes...

additionally, there are sometimes -- when i'm listening to some good madoka, jeff belfi and shane ehlers -- that i picture to myself just how dank the prog scene is over there on the regular. idunno, but my friend is a new jersey dj, and he says the prog is somewhat alive on the east coast (that was like 2 yrs ago). prog is nearly dead over here tho

It's all "Electronic Music" these days.

No DJ's use the "P" word for fear of being pidgeon holed or marginalised with being stuck in a time warp or behind the times - "House" is also only used with extreme caution too.

For some reason Tech seems trendy now ... it's the new Minimal after everybody realised the Electro truly blows. Also saying something is influenced by the "Berlin" sound seems to get brownie points too.

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

Re: Is progressive house in New York dead?

@ simonr : "tech," "progno," "mnml," etc. etc. have been trendy for a while now. no one realized "electro" sucks, it's just that most dj's didn't know how to do it right as a deejay. yes parlance prog/progbreaks is dead, if not for forsaken period, but it's transformational elements are still versatile -- and long livin. (imho of course)

@ haziel : lol yeah. but "the bubble" is better known for other prominent genres. it does however, in my opinion have a killer house and deep scene.

Is it safe to say "tribal" is dead?

I'd like Techno Tribal to be the new "in" thing ... seriously

speaking of, can someone recommend a club in Miami that plays brazilian drum & bass tribal mashups on weeknights and underground vocal breakbeats on the weekend?

And this is what kills me. I went to Timewarp in Mannheim the other day , and albeit I had a good time, but for as many people being on the bill for a 20+ hour music festival, There was absolutely no melody or soul, or groove for that matter. I mean it was like 0830 in the morning and Loco Dice was droppin the same techno beat ( with the climax being a new hi hat)That I had been hearing for 10 hrs. what is the deal with that shit? i just don't undersatand there being no difference in sets. Its a waste of money and time.

Laurent Garnier, Yoris Voorn, and Carl cox were enjoyable, but the rest of the sets were forgettable.

I used to worry about that shit, frankly I donīt give a damn anymore, I can find good prog-house out there, you just have to take your time in digging for it, itīs not as prevalent as before, thatīs all.

Shameless plug, i just did a mix for Tribalmixes radio which hopefully will show this.

As for whatīs playing in the clubs and festivals, fuck it, I just donīt go there, nor do I feel any kind of need to ībelongī or be īcoolī music-wise, I just stay home and listen to what I want. Maybe Iīm just old and over the hill musically, I donīt care.
