Cuba!

Hey guys!

me and the misses are thinking about going to cuba this summer.

We quite like the idea of doing a self drive tour, starting in havanna and going anti clockwise round the northwest of cuba. Taking in Pinar del Rio, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Varadeo and back to Havanna.

I've been looking on the interwebz and there are packages car and accomodation organised, which sounds like the easiest option. otherwise it's difficult to find hotels at the right price in the various locations. the misses what the accomodation sorted before we leave.

Has anyone got any pointers, tips and advice on cuba, hotels and driving around?

Never been dhar so i can't help sorry but i just did a quick google and apparently if you look around there's some real cheap accommodation....

yeah reminds me of butlins a bit - can't see any packages where they give you a car though so you may be a bit stuck ?
If you're into waterboarding it's very popular there - somewhere between waterskiing and snow boarding at a guess but never had a go me self

my roommate told me a story about cuba. something about being high on crack, flipping a car over on the highway and missing his flight back to france.

...wish I could stay there for a long time

Cuba is amazing... really beautiful especially old Havana.. we had a blast been driven around by a local. We rented a car with driver for the weekend who picked up and basically took us on a guided tour. Clubbing was cool, though it all Spanish music.. and the dancing was sooo much fun. Booze is cheap and the people are loads of fun & extremely friendly.

I wasn't too keen on the food but I suppose it all depends where you stay... we decided to rent a room from a friend of friend - have a more authentic cuban experience rather than staying at a resort... (If we do go back, I'll be staying at a resort this time.)

It was fun one time experience... having to fend for yourself and all.. ie. its sorta like camping. When you live in a hotel/restort at least you can get a cup of coffee in the morning and even breakfast. Plus I'm getting older and would like breakfast in bed

it seems quite a viable way to see and do what you want!
