GU:027 Las Vegas. Mixed and compiled by Sandra Collins

This is it ? in GU fashion, taking on one of the world?s most glamorous locations and bringing in one of the underground?s most sexist female dj together for her homecoming in Las Vegas, Nevada, Sandra Collins returns to claim the throne as Global Underground?s first female dj for its main compilation. ?This is really special for me, I?m honored to be the first female dj to represent the Global Underground banner. With a rich history of pioneering djs like Sasha and John Digweed releasing timeless albums, I hope to continue that tradition ? wish me luck,? said Sandra on a phone interview in Santo Domingo on a night that she will be playing alongside Trance legend Paul Oakenfold. Already showcasing her skills this past year for Oakenfold?s Perfecto Label, I asked her if she was concerned by adding another 2-disc mixed cd was overexposure in such a short period of time; ?I do think it?s a bit much since I?m still basically promoting my current mix album for Perfecto, but how could I say no to Global Underground. They are a quality label that has pioneered a sound that has eclipsed the definition of underground dance music. Saying no to them is like saying no to producing Madonna?s next album.? As for possible new material from Sandra she says that ?maybe I?ll try to seriously finish some tracks and see if it fits with the vibe and the mood that I want, but I don?t want this to be just about me, but about all the talented producers that I?ve been supporting.? As the phone conversation continues, I asked if she knew where the party was going to take place as the last Global Underground compilation was held in Romania with James Lavelle. Her voice suddenly pitched up and I could tell she was smiling as she told me it would be in Las Vegas. Las Vegas I asked, well that doesn?t honestly seem like a logical choice for Global Underground since the title is Underground, but Sandra just replied with ?they asked me if there was a particular place I cared for that had an interesting vibe, a scene that should be represented and spotlighted and I said Vegas has always had this rockin? party attitude that really never showcased the sounds of underground dance music. It also helped that I?m from there so put the two together and that?s where I decided to do my album. Of course it?s not actually recorded there, but my cds will be based on the set I?ll be playing.? Our phone conversation nearing its end as Sandra is about to head out for her gig, I ask her one last thing before we end, ?so exactly which club are you going to play and when?? The phone?s quiet, silent for a solid minute and then a soft reply of ?I don?t know yet. All of this is happening so quickly, but from all accounts, it?s going to happen right after the New Year. Maybe the first week, if not, the next. It?s going to be a great year 2005, I can feel it.? That was it, Sandra headed off to play with Paul and I?ll be reserving a reservation to Las Vegas in early 2005. Now I just need to find out where it?ll be. A momentous night it?ll be for one of dance music?s finest female djs that will establish herself as one of the greatest djs of our time while reinforcing her selection as Global Underground?s first female dj for the label.

    ^^^^ couldnt agree anymore....

what is GU thinking.. Sandra is past her prime (thats if she even had a prime) if she has enough glass or coke at her disposal then it might be an alright album but what a mistake on GU's part

Damn that's a fucking shame, seems the last one for me will be Lavelle's one then

They should put some life in that Nubreed series and have some new talents on that or maybe another 24/7.

I think they should make a renewal of the GU series... It would be nice to see something fresh, like a DVD of a star DJ (sasha, digweed, JZ, etc.) mixing live in front of thousands of people. They have to put their minds in new things, and that would be a perfect first step IMO.

If that's not a great idea, I think they should keep going with the producing... something similar to what they've doing with Trafik, or like Sasha's last album... that's the way to go.

                  Ok lets begin.

I'd like to see where exactly this was printed in (i.e. site, magazine) no just a cut and paste job.

Second, I just can't believe that GU would take a chance on someone who is def. hit or miss. Especially, giving her a GU album????

                  Finally, it's a joke guys.

Nubreed 007: Mixed and Complied by Palash

Palash is no newcomer in the myst of the underground. His name along former partner-in-crime Saeed have been on the forefront of tribal music in the United States. Now on his own, he pushes new terrain as a single dj ? an artist ? and a visionary as Global Underground has tapped Palash Ahmed to revitalize the forgotten Nubreed series from its grave. The first question posed to Palash was why? Why take on Nubreed and for the matter and why is Global Underground breathing new life in the series that has been in hibernation in the past 3 years. ?Well, first I just like to thank Andy and everyone at Global Underground for this opportunity. It?s been a wild 10 years and I think it?s time that I show the global community who I am as an individual. Not just one-half of Saeed and Palash, but Palash, the dj and producer.?

I thought that was great, but apparently I felt that Palash was just being too kind and he was just side-stepping my question, but then he continues on to feed me the reasons as to why Global Underground has reawaken the sleeping giant. ?I can understand anyone who hears that Palash is compiling the next Nubreed series would be scratching his or her head. I know I would, but when I was talking to Andy and everyone at GU, it was very apparent that they had plans to revamp, or re-envision what Nubreed would be all about. It wasn?t going to be this new dj that no one has ever heard about mixing a release for GU, but djs that would progress underground music through new areas of sound and production. Not to say that everyone prior to me hasn?t done that, that?s not what I?m saying, but it?s going to be different ? new and fresh in a time that I believe needs it.? Intrigued as I was to hear about Palash?s new project, it was simply shocking to hear GU?s plans to return Nubreed. I simply couldn?t get away from the fact that Nubreed would return and I asked Palash if he could elaborate Global Underground?s plans for future installments of Nubreed. ?Well, I honestly don?t know too much of what they want to do, but I know that there will be a conscious effort to disassociate themselves from the pervious Nubreed perception. Before from what I?ve been told that some of the dj?s were a bit sadden to hear that most people who purchased cds thought they were literal just that ? new djs who just happened to get lucky and compile a cd for Global Underground. Now GU wants to make sure Nubreed is about individuals who are progressing our sound and our future.?

My head just won?t let up as I continue to probe Palash just a bit more before I head towards the actual interview that was schedule. ?So why did they pick you. Not to say that you?re not incredibly talented, but why do you think you?ve been handpicked to reenergize this series and not someone else, say James Zabiela, Phil K, or James Holden?? ?Well, first off, those who you have mentioned are amazing djs and producers who are pioneering underground dance music and I absolutely agree that they are, but I also see myself among their talents and skills. What I?ve been doing the past 10 years is embracing and pushing the sounds of tribal and minimal. I think Global Underground understand this and they underground what I and my label has done since its conception.? As time moves on, I notice that it?s been an hr, a full sixty minutes and our interview should be wrapping up, yet I don?t want it to. There?s so much I wanted to chat with Palash about, but oh well, I think it?s was a suitable substitute to trading in one interview about life after Saeed, Addictive Records, and possibly politics for something as memorable and exciting as finding that Global Underground and Palash has joined together for a new partnership that looks ever so healthy.
