The Police don't deal with it, If you call them they won't come out. You have to go to Environmental Health. My neighbor had plenty of people knock on his door. He basically said exactly the same thing as the couple being prosecuted, "Its my house I will do what I want". Once a company has been made Environmental Health dont automatically come out, the first stage is they send out a letter saying complaints have been made and they could be investigated. In my neighbors case he carried on as usual.

when i threw a house party they called the cops on me!

i turned round to them and said i was sorry and all the neighbours had to do was come round and i would have turned it down. You cant tell how loud it is outside! complete waste of their time!

I'd choose the Dutch govt personally but yeah you're right there are many places worse than here of course.

As for the noise thing i've sort of got a foot in both camps >
I live in a terraced house with uni students on both sides and although there have been one or two confrontations over the years (only once coming to blows but fuckin ell i was at the end of my patience that night and the red mist came down ) overall not so bad in 8 yrs of living here.
Bit strange really as people move in and out every year so if they are quiet you have to make the most of it while it lasts as sept may bring an altogether different story. On the plus side if they are a nuisance they are only a nuisance for a year so it's not like being stuck next to a permanent noisy neighbour... i have the option of complaining to the university rather than the police as they have their own security - enough justified complaints about the same people can result in them being thrown off their course so that has an effect..
The other side of the coin is that they clear off home for the whole of the summer as well as christmas and easter leaving me alone in my "own street" to make as much noise as i like so i see that as fair enough.

Maybe you should of told your nighbours you where having a party and what time it would finish, its what I do, I even post a note through the door if they are not in with my phone number. One off partys are not a problem, we where getting it every Friday, Saturday & sometimes during the week. He had more than one person knock on his door and complain. He just didn't care. Funny thing was he didn't do it while his kids where living in his house.

You reckon? This government is a disgrace, inept, corrupt and with an unelected leader. I just wrote a long rant but I can't be arsed with it, I am in no way suggesting we are in the worst position, but the UK is a properly fucked up place.

hard to think of something to recommend about it to be honest dhar - not worth uppin sticks for a bag of fish and chips is it??
the people maybe? on the whole a pretty tolerant and good humoured bunch

^ could not agree with you more - cannot believe we have a pm who strolled into office unelected (unelected by his own party as well unbelievably) on the strength of being an old chum of the last twat who held the post...
"yeah we'll have an election but i'm going to let my mate gordon have a go for a few years first as i promised him he could"

id cards, police, civil liberties, iraq war, afghan war, health, schools, spending, etc etc etc - like you i could rant and rant but, again like you, i can't be arsed..
The above mentioned tolerance of the people on the whole is fast turning to complete apathy concerning all things political, which is unsurprising really when the actions of the government bear no relation whatsoever to the wishes of the electorate (probably 80% of whom would not vote for this govt if asked) - how undemocratic can you get?

As my old man used to say "the only man of honourable intentions to ever enter the houses of parliament was Guy Fawkes"

^^^ As well as agreeing we're pretty much the same age - maybe we're just cynical old gits?!

Seriously, when you look at people like Jacqui Smith (home secrectary, among other things charges dodgy expense claims incl her husband charging his porn to the taxpayer!), Hazel Blears (waste of valuable oxygen), and Mandelson (what the FUCK is he doing back in the govt) it just STAGGERS me that these unelected, corrupt clowns are in power. How did this happen?

Ah well, nevermind, at least there's still the tunes
