Um...no offense, but I think the facts have already proven most everything you've said to be wrong.
1. Not all flus are created equal. Yes, it's just the flu - except much more virulent and with a significantly higher mortality rate than what you're thinking of. Ever hear of the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918? That was the flu too, and by conservative estimates it killed at least 20 million people worldwide.
2. Most people killed by it have been young, otherwise seemingly healthy people. This demographic mortality trend was supposedly quite distinctly witnessed in the 1918 pandemic, too. The medical theory is that in young people most of the damage ultimately ends up being caused by an overreaction of the immune system, called a "cytokine storm".
