Remember back in 2006 when Stephen Colbert was, for some bizarre reason, asked to be a speaker at the annual White House Correspondent's Dinner? Also, remember where he accepted that invitation and proceeded to sit 15 feet from President Bush, delivering a scathing satire of the president himself and the press corps that followed him?
I was curious then why anyone that had ever seen Colbert's work would ask him to speak at such a function. Now, we know -- conservatives watching the program evidently don't realize that they are the ones being mocked:

Additionally, there was no significant difference between the groups in thinking Colbert was funny, but conservatives were more likely to report that Colbert only pretends to be joking and genuinely meant what he said while liberals were more likely to report that Colbert used satire and was not serious when offering political statements. Conservatism also significantly predicted perceptions that Colbert disliked liberalism.
