It's pretty good. Nothing special but well worth paying the 10 € (or so) for the digital in 7digital.com. Nearly all the tracks included full length on it too as seems to be the norm these days.
I have listened to both CD's this week on the commute to work. Nothing really grabbed me at all, and I am quite disappointed with the lack of vocals, as his Renaissance discs were quite catchy and upbeat. I can see me giving this a few more tries then flogging it on eBay.

Hmmm... just ordered my copy online... I'll have to give it a proper listen regardless.. sometimes I have to wonder why I do these things.. I'm not even a huge fan

Its called the GU JINX. Everyone who leaves GU starts knocking out great CD's. Anyone who joins starts knocking out shite. LOL

Ha ha you could be right! Although I really enjoyed the Bogota release from earlier this year.
I think it's a trend with all new DJ's really. When they burst onto the scene it seems that they play more catchy, upbeat tunes, and then when they make it moderately big they try to do too much, or play 'fashionable' music as opposed to decent music.
Despite their series of flops... some incredibly good music has been put out on that label mind you.
Yeah I have all the Limited Editions of the main series until Da House Cat, ll the Lights Out, 24/7 and the first 6 NuBreeds. Its just since they went into liquidation in 02/03 they haven't put out anything that great. Every time they release something now people always say its nice to see them back on form. Id say anything they haven't done in the last 5 years that's a return to form. Its not like its because there's no good music, Renaissance just seem to trump with every release. I just think they are living on the legendary status from years gone by.
Didn't know they went into liquidation.. certainly explains a few things.
Yeah that's why the release date on Nick Warren's Reykjavik GU got postponed so many times. Deep Dish's Toronto GU wasn't released as a Limited Edition Long Box at the time either. Though they did release it as a Limited Edition about 5 months later. It was also when James Todd left. I think they where saved by a group from Singapore.
To be fair to them though, since the liquidation came and went, they have grown as a company in terms of diversity - they have released the Afterhours comps, artist albums, GU Mixed stuff etc. If they had kept to the rigidity of the city releases they would have disappeared a long time ago.
Although because they went down that route it didn't appeal to me as much as it did in 1998-2001 - I just do not enjoy the type of music that gets played by Felix, Freeland, Layo & Bushwacka etc
i liked it, particularly the lack of upbeat vocals. It's supposed to represent him and completely, his influences, some of his current stuff and the future. For example, one of the first tunes on disc 2 is off Burridge's nubreed CD. Considering I thought this would be crap, i actually think it's good.
I like it - it might not be anything really new, but it still has a nice groove to it. Not every comp out there has to be made up of new, exclusive choonage.
