Nobody here thinks that some of this "leaked set, pissed off dj" rhetoric is just a reverse psychology way of creating a buzz?

"Don't download the leaked set, the dj didn't want it released."

I realize they say that but do they honestly care if the occasional liveset is recorded that wasn't supposed to be? I think this is part of what Simonr was getting at and think his post is closest to reality, but who knows?

Besides, if the dj didn't know it was being recorded, why would it be there fault or diminish their reputation?

That is a major insult both to Hernan and his fans!! He doesn't need that sort of crap!! Your comment is just more pathetic justification to steal music.

It is in a lower quality than Hernan would ever release. Therefore it doesn't sound as good as it should , of course it can do damage!!

What is really sad about all of this , is the fact that Hernan was going to release a set before his Master series cd , now that this has happened I doubt it .

if anything, he should release that set... because if it is better quality than the leaked one, those of us who appreciate good sound quality will trash it and keep the good one.

speaking for myself, i never really understood the Hernan hype... i tried set after set in getting into him but it wouldnt click... neither his compilations, radio mixes, or live sets would interest me in the least bit. this leaked set is really good imo... sound quality is eh but the tracks are amazing. makes me want to hear more.

i know where you're coming from but how do people know when a set is authorised or not? If they see a set by their favourite dj they are most likely going to want to listen to it.

^^^I agree with that !! But that is a totally different thing to deliberately putting up sets we KNOW are unauthorised , or defending those who do. !! I know I will think twice in future .

Personally in this case I am kicking myself because if I had thought about it there is no way known Hernan would have authorised the release of a low sound quality set. He never releases anything that isn't 192 k! Which is his respect for us as well !!

Btw ddr he is playing some of those same tunes in other sets and believe me they sound way better in better quality !!

I still think it's a big fuss over nothing. The set got ripped, it got released ... did any of us knowingly release it? If not, someone else on the interweb did. You can't control it. This is as stupid as all MPAA or RIAA crying and whining about the distribution of media.

You're trying to uphold the entire internet or Hernan fanbase to your own ethics which is not very realistic.

To some extent, fans understand DJs have good and bad nights, but we're still fans aren't we? So has this set done anything to ruin Hernan's reputation so far?

If nobody blew the whistle on this, we'd have given it a listen, talked it up, or say his set from XXX was better ... just look at all the talk comparing Sasha or Digweed sets. But was there any one point when someone actually said, Sasha/Digweed sucks and I'm never gonna listen to them again because of a particular set?

That is totally irrelevant !!! The artist should have the moral right to decide what is released or not. Someone here stole this , and someone else put it up knowing it was stolen. !!

On this topic, I know of a "set releaser" who has a list of older sets I would love to get a listen to. He of course says he needs to get permission from the DJ first before he releases any of them. I totally understand where he is coming from. That sounds like the courteous thing to do.

My question is that when the set is 4 or more years old already, what then are the reasons for still keeping them private (not like even having no reason isn't good enough since the DJ shouldn't really even need to justify his/her decision). I am just wondering what reasons someone like Satoshi Tomiie and/or the releaser have for keeping half a dozen sets private from 2000 thru 2004. I have the names & dates of the sets but won't even list them here as I suspect even that might not be appreciated since they are not available. These sets are way in the past now. Only reason I can think of is that the DJ wasn't on his game that night perhaps?

^^ I understand what you are saying, but they are their property and that is enough reason for them not to be released. It's this false "right of internet" mentality we have that leads us to believe we are entitled to everything an artist does???

I was incredibly proud of the Darkbeat boys when they wouldn't release the Danny Howells Brown alley set without his say so. I just nagged Danny on his site until we got it. Nagging is legitimate

i respect every right that the dj has to his or her own work, but property is relative and arbitrary; and especially within EDM. a lot of these true school producers make choons so that djs will spin them. they even derive the real joys just from delivering to the djs that perform for all the various scenes.

there is a old artistic saying that goes a bit like this:

"the record companies the pimp, the artist - the hoe, the stage is the corner, and the audience is the trick"

btw, the MPAA and RIAA are all faggots. i hope they continue to fall.

Think about it. There're way more shit going on in the world that doesn't adhere to any sane mind's ethics, and this is just one of them.
