Twitter app for Traktor

Pioneering techno DJ Richie Hawtin has announced the development of a new Twitter application that enables him to broadcast his Traktor tracklists in real time over the network.

The custom Twitter application was developed in-house by Richie Hawtin’s label Minus, and it works by uploading song metadata through Traktor Pro’s inbuilt broadcasting functionality.

Track details are automatically posted to Richie Hawtin’s Twitter account every 30 seconds (you can already see Traktor tracklist updates on his Twitter), giving anyone access to the tracklist of his performance, and providing exposure to the artists and labels whose music is being played.

The Twitter app is so advanced that it inspired Native Instruments to add the functionality themselves to version 1.2 of Traktor Pro which will be released as a free update.

That means that soon everyone will be able to tweet their tracklists via Traktor.

I remember the days when people would tune into an essential mix or a set online and everyone's talking about it in GYY and spotting tracks ...

Imagine this at Delta Heavy or the next S&D tour ...

ive never understood the need of people to know every track a famous dj is playing, the only thing that we get from things like these is everybody playing the same tracks over and over.

do you guys not check out beatportal. this is where the news came from. and BTW, was talking to a friend of mine last night about this stuff, and he was telling me that Hawtin was NOT the first to do this. It was some Japanese dj. Can't place the name right now.

It's a killer idea for all you trainspotters though.

The more I think about this, the more I like it. You can be on the dancefloor with your iPhone and find out right then what the dj is twisting through their setup right in front of you...

As for the exclusivity and rarity of the art and the tracks played... guys, all that went out the window a long time ago when everyone dumped vinyl for the digital age. Vinyl was what made tunes rare and exclusive, and that era is pretty much gone. Now people try to compete on exclusivity by having more advanced / complicated setups and protocols for melding music together on them.

So if you dumped your vinyl for Traktor and Beatport, you may as well embrace this. It's all in the same family.

yeah, i totally understand that music is at the reach of everybody, and i mean everybody, the one thing that i hate is the idea of you being a dj and always hunting down tracks that other dj's are playing, i mean cmon, go look for some good tracks yourself.

i think its just me trying my hardest to be an innovator instead of an imitator, for me i really dont enjoy playing the "hits" that the other dj's are playing, yeah sometimes its innevitable, but to go as far as to be hunting down tracks other dj's are playing is just insane.

from the producer point of view i can see this really being helpfull, you being an up and comming producer and finding out that Richie Hawtin is playing your tunes would be great.
