from the reading of this, it sounds like as a result of bankruptcy, Chrysler will now get the $8B federal bailout... not sure how all of this works, but that's at least what this article says.

Chrysler will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New York on Thursday and will be eligible for up to $8 billion in federal aid to rebuild the ailing automaker, according to senior administration officials.

gee a bankruptcy before was the worst thing possible...now all of a sudden it's a Godsend.

the biggest thing is this will allow chrysler to rewrite all those inflated union contracts which have bogged down us automakers for decades. seriously, you shouldn't be making $50+ per hour to stand on an assembly line and put screws in a door.

it was about freaking time they did this.

and I suspect it will come up soon, so I'll just state it now: yes, this is different from the banking crisis (although some banks should be pushed towards an orderly bankruptcy, too).

well, now they own the problem they created for the rest. they die, it was thier own management and ownership that did it. maybe for once, a union will accept that there simply isnt enough money to keep them all employed while presenting a prodcut that the public will buy at a certain demand. im glad they are getting such a large share of the company, now they can balance the books while finding a way to make more affordable and desireable cars

but then again, with our current leadership, and lobbying, i can easily forsee a future where the auto industry and obamanomics get a law passed saying we have to buy american cars to keep thier pockets happy.
