BAGHDAD, Iraq It's going to be a crowded field in Iraq's January 30th election.
The Independent Electoral Commission says it's approved 156 political parties to run candidates in the general election.
A commission spokesman says the new choices include Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's (EE'-yahd ah-LAH'-weez) Iraqi National Accord party and President Ghazi al-Yawer's (GAH'-zee ahl-YOW'-urz) Iraqis' Party.
The commission rejected 56 parties that failed to meet criteria.
The Iraqi Islamic Party is one of those approved. The Sunni group had threatened to boycott the election to protest the U-S-led assault on Fallujah but later decided to participate.
