But this is San Francisco, where you routinely pay $1-$2K a month for rent in the decent parts of town.

I've never seen a house with a garage door in the living room before

That's the girls office (or work studio).

Claire’s studio is rendered plainly, but chromatically. Orange laminate cabinetry, pink powder-coated off-the-shelf shelf brackets, a deep purple ceiling and blood-red bathroom emerged from a color palate that Claire has given us within the first week of working. Worthwood end-grain plywood flooring extends through the space, lending a raw studio feel. An aluminum and glass garage door opens up the back sitting area to a rear deck and the Palm Springs-inspired garden design by Flora Grubb.

There is an "informal sitting area" by the kitchen w. their tv, etc...there is a lot of detail you have to look pretty carefully. I think the glass garage door is sic, its classy but industrial at the same time, I wish there were photos of the finished back yard, I love palm springs!

It was fun while it lasted...

All of these posted are amazing/beautiful... down right bloody fantastic! Of course with a little bit of moolah one can put out masterpieces ...lol

I would love to live in SF... the most beautiful/relaxed/ gorgeous weather, fun city in the US imo. However isn't' it one of the most expensive in real estate compared to NYC?

Note to self - I need to paste some of these on my vision board that I've been meaning to create forever now

^Def expensive but I tried to post a house that was not totally out of reach...like something over the top like this $12.9 million san fran home....the interior is way too much, but still pretty cool to look at imo. http://www.sfproperties.com/properti...e/gallery.html

I wanted to convert my garage into my music room, get it all rewired, plastered, decorated, get rid of the garage door and replace it with some French doors, new lighting, Internet the lot. I even saved the money to get it done. My girlfriend said if I get it done I will have to live in there to. Maybe I will get it done when the credit crunch is over

While I'm 100% on board with places that are really unique -- our place is actually a bit unusual, at least as compared to other houses in our neighborhood -- this place has been too personalized. That's the sort of house where every component is a different conversion piece; unfortunately, I'd have no stories to tell other than, "Uh yeah, I bought it from this guy." I'd rather get a house and trick it out with my own cool stuff.

Plus its not as comfy cozy. For that kind of money... I'd like some more open space... each room is almost too busy

I 'm moving to San francisco next year, and i think this thread is awesome and very helpful

Anyways I don't know about New York but All I can say about this , is that in California there are some pretty expensive places, like San francisco, Newport beach , Laguna , L.a. (Malibu and Bel-air ) this last one not even comparable in terms of beauty to the previous 3
