Interview with Anthony Pappa
Hi Anthony, how has 2009 been for you so far?
It’s been a good year for me. I have been very busy Djing all over the world and l have been in the studio and made a new single and also recorded my new mix cd compilation Moments Volume 2.
You have been on the progressive house scene for quite a few years now, how do it you see it now and how has it changed?
Well the most obvious change is with the technology and equipment we use today. Years ago l would eagerly wait for the postman to knock on my door with my daily fix of new vinyl and tunes and today any time you turn tour computer on you have new tunes waiting to be downloaded so that you can burn them to CD and take to the gig.
You have played all over the world what is your favourite club to play in and why?
My favourite club would have to be Pacha in Buenos Aires in Argentina. The reason the gig is so good is because of the people. The crowd are very passionate about music and the atmosphere is always amazing.
What have been your tracks and producers of the year so far?
These are some of my favourite producers of this year: Reset Robot, Marc Romboy, Peter Horrevorts, Fergie and Monaque.
If you could go and hear any DJ play in the world who would it be?
Sasha.
Which other DJs have inspired you?
Sasha.
What kind of technical set-up are you currently using? Any add-ons to the usual CDJ & mixer set-up?
My current set up is 3 Pioneer Mk3 1000 CDJ’s and a Pioneer 800 Mixer.
Your Moments 2 CD comes out in June, what was your inspiration for this and what are the stand out tracks for you?
The inspiration for the album comes from the music that l hear and play. The album is full of tracks that l consider to be great “Moments” from my sets. Some of the stand out tracks for me are Stel – “The Nail That Sticks Out”, Erphun – “Butterflies” (Quivver Remix), Bonnicci, Pappa & Phil K – “Blending With The Ether” and Glenn Morrison – “Orange Glow” (Robert Babicz Remix).
You are currently on tour with the new CD, is there anywhere you are particularly looking forward to playing or not playing?
I’m looking forward to playing in Casablanca in Morocco. I have never been there before so it should be interesting.
You are originally from Australia but have been living in London for some time, is there anything you miss from back home?
I have been living in the UK for 14 years now. I miss my friends and family from Australia and the good weather.
Twisted Audio is at Babalou which is a crypt of an old church, how do you feel about playing in such an intimate venue?
I’m really looking forward to it. I love small and intimate venues. I also haven’t been to church in a while so l’ll be killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Djing and going to church.
What can people expect to hear you play at Twisted Audio?
Tunes.
And some quick fire questions for you;
Miami or Ibiza - Ibiza
Vinyl or CDJs - CDJs
Sasha or Digweed - Sasha
Surfing or skiing - Skiing
London or Sydney - Sydney
BBQ or roast dinner – Roast Dinner
Pioneer or Allen & Heath – Pioneer
