I think for me all these exclusive residences really spoilt the Island. I much preferred it when you you could see artists like Pippi Sanchez and Dave Seaman all in the same night. these days you rarely see people like Dave Seaman, Lee Burridge or even Nick Warren on regular line ups in Ibiza.
This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.
Just a few points ..... ibiza does set a lot of trends - the DC10 sound has spread across the world and the newer Pacha lifestyle clubbing trend has also taken off (unfortunately).
ibiza is still a key element, more so than the WMC, because the season runs for 5 x months where music is shaped and songs broken.
Off course there are many other key scenes too from Berlin to South America .. but ibiza a key element in EDM.
BTW I saw tieso play a 5 hour set at amnesia in 2005 when I was bored with the dreadful electro sound - I though he was immense, very much like Oakenfold at his peak ... he played chilled balaeric trance and was completely in tune with the sound of the island. It was clear that he'd focused on what he played out for a full summers residency, evolved over the summer and put it all together brilliantly. That's what any talented DJ does.
Since that summer he's stopped becoming a club DJ and is now pretty big headed and loathsome. Plus I don't care for his productions. Maybe he's become the figurehead for the things we don't like about the EDM scene and maybe he's exploited things to make a buck too. But when he played amnesia he proved how good he a DJ he was (check out his 2005 EM from there).
I actually like his "In search of Sunrise" CD's - I feel they carry on the trance sound from 1999 that Sasha, Digweed and Oakey were playing. I'm not saying all the music on them is brilliant, but there are some good tracks. Interestingly he plays stuff by Solarstone, Tilt, Dousk, Matthew Dekay, Luke Chable, Grayarea, BT, Gabriel & Dresden, Petter and Way Out West. These are good producers that have been dropped by the DJ's we love and (in some cases) been replaced by lesser talented ones.
.. but yeah ... that "maximal" quote is very cringeworthy !

I actually like some trance songs and I don't mind putting one in my mix but to me that kind of music is like cheap thrills. It just lacks depth of emotion...IMO its really easy to get the crowd going when the song playing is like 133 bpm much more difficult with 125...especially if the crowd is not really into EDM all that much.
