An old interview with Sasha from 2001 I think.

Sasha salutes Koblo's sound
I use Gamma9000 for programming lines and bass sounds. It has got really really great different sounds. I really like it`.`
Hardworking superstar Sasha flew in from Amsterdam to headline house club OKYO in Copenhagen Thursday 9 August and surprised Koblo after midnight by declaring he is using Gamma9000 from Koblo’s acclaimed Studio9000 on his upcoming album.
´I use Gamma9000 for programming lines and bass sounds. It has got really really great different sounds. I really like it. The percussion-sounds are great as well. There are a couple of tracks on my album that they are used on, but they are not finished yet. They will be ready next year`.
Sasha said at the ten minute meet-and-greet at OKYO-mainsponsor Koblo’s presentation show in front of the club lounge. Sasha was delayed and chose to meet Koblo instead of doing some of the interviews with the eagerly waiting Danish music journalists. The DJ-star, who is said to play Progressive Trance with a good mix of house and break beat elements, had a great chat with the Koblo evangelists about the use of software synths and his latest discovery.
´The arpeggiator in Studio9000 definitely got a groove to it that is quite recognisable when one hears it on a record. You always know it when it is there`,
The dressed in white shirt and relaxed Sasha explained while the crowd were howling at the venue. Resident DJ Nicka did a great job with warming up the people to the big event that Sasha showed to be later that night.
´I really got into Gamma9000 about a year and a half ago but I haven’t used it for a while because I got loads of the other stuff like Absynth and Reactor. I came back to use Koblo, because I found the programme Modularing. It is like an analog step sequencer, but it is on a computer and you can use it to trigger Absynth, Reactor or any of those things, and the thing about it is that really interesting lines come out of it.`
It was American intelligent dance star BT (Brian Transeau) who brought Sasha’s attention to the abilities of the Gamma9000.
´He showed it to me and it really blew my mind`, Sasha says.
BT and Sasha are long time friends and collaborators who at one point in 1998 had what Sasha has been quoted for saying was ”one of the most amazing musical experiences in my life”. It happened in Peter Gabriel’s creative universe ´Real World Studios` in Bath. They went there to only do one track but ´there were so many talented musicians around and the vibe down there was incredible. People were walking in, hitting things, strumming things, and slapping their goats! There were mad African people everywhere. We ended up recording five tracks and finishing four.” Sasha explains in his press release.
Sasha gave Koblo an explanation of why Modularing is so great.
´If I use Modularing to actually sequence on Gamma, it comes up with a completely different sound and line. It sits behind Logic and you feed it Midiclock from the IAC-Bus and you can link it to any synth in your studio or any of your software synths. What I do is come up with a great line in Modularing and then I feed it to every single synth in the studio and then I see what happens`.
Sasha picks what he needs in his laboratory and gathers the pieces in Logic. In the middle of it all he has his beautiful titanium G4 mac-laptop.
´What I really want to get into is writing lines on the Koblo, but instead of using your arpeggiator which I think has a very fine groove to it. Modularing can sequence it and give a completely different sound. Whenever you need sounds or lines you just go back and feed it to another synth`.
That’s really what you need to do with a computer. You need it to do something you can come over with yourself.
´What I found out with software synthesizers is that you end up nerding out on them in the middle of your mix and then you end up with loads of sounds and you only needed one. So the Modularing just lies there behind and you forget about it and bring it back and it sort of really brings all the software synths alive. I found out it was difficult to sync up like for example one Reactor with Logic and had loads of problems unless you have two computers running. Modularing is the perfect link between your sequencer and all these kinds of things.`
Sasha states and mentions a number of good ideas for Koblo to implement in the synth-products to optimize and ease the use of the Vibra, Stella and Gamma-universe.
Koblo suggested to drop by at his studio at some point.
´That would be cool. I have moved my whole studio to Amsterdam for two months because I am working on my record, but I am probably going to move it back to England by the end of September. I am working with Tom from Junkie XL. He has a studio there with a spare room next to it, where I have set up my studio. What I have is one room where I am doing my mixes in and the other is like my laboratory where I just go in an make bits of sounds and stufff. Constantly the information is going from one studio back into that room. You get it into the mix you take it back and fuck it up. It is really a cool way of working to have two or three computers working at the same time and two or three people just throwing ideas in and out……sorry guys I really have to go and DJ.`
Reports from hardcore-fans on the late night DJ-concert with Sasha calls it ”His best show ever”. The organizers are still holding their arms in the air.
The reports didn’t include fainting blondes but Koblo definitely saw a number of dizzy danish house-babes hangin’ out backstage watching the man doing his thing.
