pretty much sounds like a studio cd.

I am listening to this through my Squeezebox into my stereo. The APE is definitely sourced louder - but I also think the quality is better in general. The MP3 is softer, but has some artifacts.

I think the APE is definitely better.

Technically, do you know the diff between APE and FLAC? If they're both loss-less, I'm just curious.

To answer my own query, here's some info on FLAC and Monkey's Audio:

            - Both are lossless audio codecs.
            - APE/Monkey's Audio compresses slightly better than FLAC, thus reducing file size.
            - FLAC is generally better supported cross-platform, and due to the codec design has better native hardware support. Also, supports streaming, whereas APE does not.

            Monkey's Audio: (APE) - http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index....nkey%27s_Audio

            FLAC - http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=FLAC

Bottom-line: both loss-less, thus great quality (as long as the source is clean, obviously).

first 2 hours is really solid and great buildup up until that one track starts skipping and he has to start over... overall a really good set though for sure.

I saw a post somewhere where it was labeled as a FLAC, but I'd never seen the lossless quality one around.

If so - anyone have a link to the FLAC?

                  Thanks.

Re: Digweed - Beirut Set - FLAC?

I think gatz is making the point that these sets come out in MP3 format ... sometimes you luck out with a 320 kbs version - never will you get a lossless sound format (whether it be FLAC, APE or WAV etc.).

People sometimes mess around with the original version converting - but while it sounds different there's no adjustment on quality.

I've got a 320 version of Beruit and will be interested in the APE. But it needs a sound engineer/expert to advise us further.

Plus it depends what quality the original leak of the set was ... if you're not close to the source you'll never know how high the original quality was.

Diggers blew a gasket when this came out ... it it'd been in lossless format his head would probably have exploded !!

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

it's the new kicks song that skips right?
such a shame, that song is wicked. but then that remix of filth comes in and it's ok again, plus it ends with Ruhe so that makes up for it.

i'm thinking of the right set, no?

Thanks . Now another question, Rar files always seem to sound a bit muddy to me even if they are 320 . Is this normal or have I been unlucky. ???

I've fiddled around with converting myself and it never seemed to make it any better
