    Moon (2009)

Directed by Duncan Jones (AKA David Bowie's kid AKA "Don't call me Zowie Bowie"), starring Sam Rockwell (Confessions of a Dangerous Mind) and the voice work of Kevin Spacey.

It's one of the better hard Sci Fi films you could ask for in the last little while, managing to deliver a very solid film, but a very slow moving one (maybe a bit too slow for the summer). Borrowing elements from Alien, Silent Running, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Outland and a host of others, it was made for a fraction of the cost that most sci fi films are made for, and delivers a very even and suspenseful vibe that keeps up for the duration of the film.

Sam Rockwell is Sam Bell, an off world contract employee working on the moon, refining an element of energy called Helium 3 which has now solved most of the world's energy problems. He's two weeks away from finishing his 3 year contract in solitude, and is starting to experience some strange occurrances and his trust in his computer assistant and guardian, Gertie is starting to wane as the stange events continue.

Rockwell carries the movie pretty much on his own, and his role becomes a lot more complex as the film goes on (you'll see what I mean about a half hour in). It's a shame that this isn't being released in the fall, with a lot more publicity behind it, because Rockwell delivers a remarkably complicated acting performance - more than anything else I've seen this year - and manages to pull it off very convincingly. The story also manages to peice together a pretty intriguing idea and treats the material with some questions that might get glossed over in other, bigger budgeted films. If you were a bit disappointed with Sunshine's final act, you might get a bit more satisfaction out of this.

Saw the trailer for this, looked pretty cool. It's tough watching space movies with this kinda interior design cos everything is so reminiscent of 2001, even Spacey's voice (I assume he's the computer's voice?)

It's inevitable that it'll be compared in some ways to 2001, but it also has elements of other, high quality sci fi films (like the ones I listed, as well as a couple of others that I didn't because it might give away some of the story). And Kevin Spacey does do the voice of Gertey, the computer assistant that Rockwell spends a good chunk of the movie interacting with.

But you'll find yourself pretty engrossed in Rockwell's performance, and as I mentionned before, he carries the film all by himself, which isn't an easy thing to do (think about how convincing it was to see Tom Hanks doing Castaway - which I didn't really care for). Doubly so when you start to see how complex the role starts to get after the first half hour.

THIS trailer is much better than the one I saw on the Apple website, wtf. Definitely intriguing.

The other trailer I saw was slow paced and pretty much showed him walking around the station, getting into a spacesuit and stepping out. So the pace, the filming, the interior, was very 2001 to me.

It didn't show the doppelganger which defintely turned the whole thing around and made the show a lot more intriguing than the first impression. I'm always keen on stories that focus on one long protagonist losing his mind

I went to see this tonight.. I liked rockwells performance and the over all look of the film.

Would have liked to know more about the backround Lunar Corp. and story attached to that, Don't want to ruin the film for anyone as you can understand. Also thought the ending was wrapped up abit quick, its like they edited it for exactly 90 minutes.

          Still worth seeing though..

My friends say that this film worth to be seen. This romantic fantasy film is the sequel to the film Twilight. I was near to cry when I saw Twilight.
