Well I'm back from the white isle and recovering nicely - one of the problems of being away is missing your daily dose of [ms], but absence makes the heart grow fonder !
Went to ibiza with Domal - we stayed in the lovely area of Talamanca, the beach just behind Marina Botofich (a small boat ride across the bay from ibiza town). So it was quiet enough to chill out and recover from the madness:
The 1st big night was Sasha @ Cream (amnesia) - as a reward for our loyalty this year we were on Sasha's guest list ... which saved the ridiculous €50 door entry
Now I should mention that memories of the night are hazy thanks to (i) meeting Domnal's cousins in ibiza town at 1.00 p.m. for some tapas + beers which went on into the evening and (ii) the industrial strength mojito's served at the beach bar in Talamanca ! Still I'll try to give my best report:
Sasha played 2-hours on the very lovely Terrace (rather than Mainroom) carrying on from the previous dj, ... so no big opener, which is a shame, because the 1st track he played at The Plug a few weeks back was absolutely fantastic and I'd been hoping that was his starter for the summer. He played a few of the tracks from the recent amnesia mix including the Slam and Rachmad remixes of Samuel L. Session - Can You Relate .. but no Baboop. Here's a pic from the night (taken by a pro rather than myself !) :
Things get hazier thanks for a few jack'n'cokes - although it was a nice vibe he didn't seem to be pulling up any trees until towards the end when Sasha played 2 x oldies from circ. 98/99 that (I assume) are old Space tracks ... one of them I absolutely love and have heard him play years back & pull out on those special occasions - but I don't think it's on any of his live sets. But that was the real highlight for me (will have to check the '98 Space Coxwen tape to see if it's maybe on there - Chunky's never there when you need him !).
Sasha played Paul Woolford's "Hierbas" (named after the famous local drink) towards the end too - great balaeric track that you should check out.
**edit** flashback : Sasha played Tom Middleton's stonking remix of Orbital's Halcyon !
All in all a really good night and decent warm up for the main event - Diggers guest appearance at Carl Cox's "Join Our Revolution" night at Space:
Space was booming for this - I think Carl's night is now the biggest there (the Sunday line ups are poor and the length reduced - so they seem to be less popular). Carl packs them in - we had wristbands from the beach and locals were asking if we were going and saying how much they love the night - so there's a real vibe about Tuesdays @ Space.
Even though the price of drinks are ridiculous (€16 euros for a jack'n'coke, €12 for a beer and €7 for a mini water) the €10 euro early entrance was a bargain. Plus I was rather sober .. even did the full 3+ hours for Digweed on the dancefloor enjoying the music and energy.
Carl Cox (cool pic from the night above) is a legend - and comes on early rocking the Sunset Terrace from 11. It's a unique oldschool Space experience ... check out Carl's sets from the night which is hot off the press :

We left the terrace at 11.55 just as the were opening the doors to the Discoteca (described in guidebooks as a dark, moody, cavernous, bunker-like interior, with minimal lighting ideal for pounding beats). Each year they improve the place without taking away it's unqueness - the tuned Funktion 1 sound system at Space http://www.funktion-one.com/Club_Systems_Tony.htm is probably the best in the world .. loud but crystal clear. Plus the the lazers and LED panels provide a really great accompanyment to the music on offer.
What can I say about Digweed ? John was simply immense - he completely destroyed that Space Discoteca and took full advantage of the massive funktion 1 sound system. Diggers started off with some lovely downbeat tracks as the empty Discoteca filled up and played some nice vocals as the place packed out before building it and building it... tons of driving beats and bass into Vortex before switching to destroy mode at the end.
As always it's all new upfront tracks, so I can't really say what was played - although Sainz's Lamur rework sounded fantastic .... Carl was really enjoying what John was doing (check out the vid) and even let him play on for 20 mins.
Here's a crowd pic ... Digger's shadow is there in the centre.
As a bonus here's a vid from the end of John's set - at this point he was just deciding to destroy the place and test out the awesome Funktion 1 system to the max

I have to say that the crowd reaction over the whole night was fantastic - as Diggers said in 2006, Space is one of those clubs you need to try to get to if you ever have the chance. Sasha & Digweed play there on September 1st and there's a few of us looking at it already.
All in all a really great trip and some amazing times. Now it's back to reality !
