this was not your normal night club in atlanta that you would go see sasha and digweed. this place i guess is normally a hip hop venue pretty big place, just had to walk thru metal detectors to get in. bend over and cough

digs came on at 1215 and fiddled around for an hour, sasha came right on and jump started the place and from then on it was pretty intense they never really let up. around 445 digweed went off the wall with dustin zhan track WoW

it was a pretty good show but they gave up at the end not sure what happened sasha finished about 530 and kazell closed out...had to have been atleast 800 people still there.

lol, maybe it would have been better if they would have just booked a kick ass venue in south fla...at least there would be no candy raver kids there....and most likely they wouldnt have given up at the end....probably would have taken it into early afternoon.

lol i passed on this to go see a jamband show tonite in st. agustine...i know what is wrong with me...but I love live music as much as edm

      Re: back from sashweed@dreamz ATL

I was at the show and here is my two cents:

Diggers came on at 12:15 and did a great job warming us all up. Slow and steady build to allow Sasha to step up an hour later and really get the night going. After Sasha did a great job raising the bar, Diggers came back on for about 30-40 minutes and stunk up the club. I'm not sure why, but John seemed a bit off point. Sasha then reappeared and dared John to bump it up. After another 30-40 minutes of music only Sasha can play, the B2B started and didn't let up until 5:15, and which point Kazell came back on to close out the night. Once they starting going back and forth, Diggers found his groove and the one-uping was apparent. There were times when Sasha disappeared, only to find him in the bathroom (ha!), and then he would be on fire, jumping around, throwing his arms in the air in a attempt to pump up the crowd. All in all, it wasn't the best I've seen them, but it was far from the worst.

The club was in North Atlanta and typically caters to a more hip-hop crowd. That said, I don't think the staff were quite prepared for the e-puddles that appeared even before the boys took the decks. I grew up in the rave scene in Texas, and am no stranger to candy kids and glow sticks, but never once have I sat down on the floor and demanded a light show. I find it super disrespectful to the club and the artists. It was an 18+ show, but come on. The security was friendly, the bartenders seemed overwhelmed at times, but the club was basically a wide open floor plan with extra sound brought in. Even when the crowd level peeked around 2AM, there was still plenty of room to move. I will say this, the club must have pushed 110 degrees. It was in desperate need of fans set up in the corners to allow us to cool down. It was so hot that I opted to not get too crazy with my party favors. When was the last time you left a S+D set with stuff still in your pockets?!

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

and what is up with all the cameras these days? everyone was constantly taking pictures. Very annoying.

I thought the music was great. Kazell had a great "playfull" opening set as well.

got there at 11pm. Kazell was warming up with some generic stuff - nothing really special.

Diggers starts right around midnight and brings a more evil vibe... later plays a track with a bit of a jazz sound to it which I like. First hour has a lot of little peaks - flirting around. Hour 2 is Sasha. One of his first tracks is something complex and amazing that wasn't done justice by the overly bass- oriented sound system. Stoppage time remix came somewhere later in this hour and again, a bit too much bass IMO. But what really surprised me about hour 2 was the driving techno that sasha was playing. (Attn. Lord Lucan, Sasha was actually exciting.) No "wimpy" tech-house stuff, not a whole lot of melody. All in all very nice.

The middle of the set was solid. The dancing really got started from here on, and as mentioned, the temp suddenly went up like 30 fukin degrees. For me there was only like 3 tracks the whole night that were sort of blah (good time to go to the mens room). I've heard "Nhar - Mithril" before but it really sounded great played out and seemed to resonate with the crowd. Diggers plays track 2 from the 5/31 space opening set ("hey mama" vocals), Cirez d - fast forward, and a few more fucking ridiculous tracks, the kind that can take you from zzzz to WOOOO!! at 4am after hours of dancing.

The end was 1000 lords, and Crackpots, and finally ladytron. I was expecting some new bombs at the end so I was def. disappointed by the close, still with over 5 solid hours of ass-kicking techno, I can't complain.

Verdict: fuck yeah! can we do this every month?

                  thnx for the reviews!

sounds like Atlanta has an interesting scene. I know hip hop is huge there tho, so i wonder if it takes the shine off House and Techno?

didn't know so many people on here went to this show. from my perspective, john was not really feeling the energy that night. i actually got to chat with him for a short bit, not much at all, but he just didn't seem like he was in the mood to socialize at all and it kinda came out when he dj'ed. heis mixes were ok, though... nothing special. HOWEVER, oh my fecking god i have never heard sasha play like he played friday night. absolutely one of the most intense, energy-filled sets i have heard from sasha in years. my calves are STILL sore this morning from dancing so much. i dipped outta the club about 4am when digweed came back on. i couldn't take it any more. i was beat.

overall a fantastic night and my faith has been COMPLETELY restored in sasha. what a fucking performance.

ps - the raver kids were a bit annoying at that show. so many of them just hunched in one corner of the club, sitting on the ground fucked up and taking up space. coulda done without them.
