    Thailand - Where to stay?

Right boys and girls its holiday time again!

and since i got some good advice last year from you guys, i'm asking again.

    This year its thailand.

Going upto Chiang Mai then on to Sukhothai. Then Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. And finally Bangkok.

My major problem seems to be the islands there is such mixed reviews on accomodation and after surfing the net extensively there isnt one place that really seems to be well recommended.

The plan is to spend a night on Koh Samui, Then a night on Koh Phangan when theres the half moon party and finally 4 nights on Koh Tao.

Firstly with the half moon party i deperately need to find somewhere decent for me and the misses. Relatively near the party, near the beach but away from the usual noisy bars and what not. Any ideas?

Koh Tao is also proving a problem as there extremely mixed reviews on a lot of the resorts and websites can be somewhat misleading. we wanted an A/C bungalow on the beach that is near the nightlife but not slap bang in the middle of a club dancefloor with tunes banging on till 4 in the morning. Again appreciate any ideas/advice/personal experiences.

    Thanks in advance!

Don't stay on Had Rin sunset side in Pan Ngan - it's overpriced and can get really noisy around the parties. If you go to the sunrise side it's cheaper, less hectic and only a 15 minute walk to the bars/parties of the main beach

Can't really help you out with those places, but if you do happen to stop by Phuket be sure and let me know as I have a great recommendation.

Re: Thailand - Where to stay?

From a mate of mine Dhar >

                    thailand.

iam guessing that your looking for some real thai experience if your going to sukothai, youll find it there, not to much happening, just thais being thais, chaing mai is very touristy, so is chaing rai and pai, plenty to do there, lots of tours, treking, boat trips and opium, fun to be had for sure,
samui is a shit hole full of pissed europeans, english mainly, and girly bars, not really the place to take the misses, theres some very nice places there but there out of the way, so you would need a jeep, forget a getting a moped, samui roads are a death trap, highest road death per capita in the whole country, drink driving is compulsory here, my advice would be skip samui altogether,

i live and work in kho par ngan, if your going to a half moon party you should stay in ban tai or ban kai, both are on the south coast, these villages are around 4k's from the party,
but will fill up with party goers 3/4 days befor said event, dont worry about staying a little further away, taxis run throughout the night, par ngan bungalows just outside thong sala, are nice and fairly cheap, dont go to hadd rin, its like malaga or aya napa,

i would also avoid koh tao, are you diving? its a very beautiful island, but its been built up around the dive industry, too many divers, too many boats, too many accidents, sites over dived and most of the coral's gone,
my advice to you would be go to the half moon party and when your hang over has gone go to the north of koh par ngan and stay either in chaloklam or mae hadd, and chill, remember your on holiday, theres nice beaches nice people, mae hadd is the most northerly beach that get the sun set, if your diving go to the dive inn or chaloklam diving, in chaloklan, there the best company's on the island,

                    book nothing in bangkok,
                    you will get ripped off

                    when are you going?
                    xmas is very busy,

i work at the dive inn during the high season,
                    have done for 5years

have fun you guys, if you need any more advice just ask

                    jim
