Loved the way he closed the set with Thriller. Would have been pretty wild to have been there while it actually happened.
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”
― Marcus Tullius Cicero
I can't honestly say I can see whats great about playing Micheal Jackson Thriller at the end of a set. If I was was a DJ and someone told me Jackson was dead, I wouldn't be thinking I will dig out one of his records and playing it at my next gig. I would just carry on about my day.
I know where you're coming from, but Norman Jay did the same at the Garden Festival last month and the place went fucking bananas
This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

He said on the mic at the end of the track : that when he started his career as a dj in 1982 he used to spin Michael jackson tracks it's obviously his little tribute to Michael jackson... what's wrong with that mate? everybody seems to be having fun listening to some disco/pop at a EDM event, this is something different from a normal ending which makes it even more brilliant .
and that " i would just carry on about my day " sounds boring dude

I would carry on about my day because I couldn't give a fuck about Micheal Jackson. As an artist it was all about the show, not really about the music, Some of the songs where good but nothing excellent.
If you believe all the spin on TV he was a key player in the Civil Rights movement just because he sang Black Or White. You never hear anyone saying Fred West was a good builder, Peter Sutcliffe was a brilliant Grave Digger of Ian Huntley was an excellent Teaching Assistant.
When Sasha first started DJing he played the theme tune to Rainbow in his sets. I hope nothing happens to George, Bungle or Zippy.
^^^If you didn't know MJ and that he had died, that probably wouldn't have been a particularly good ending for a set. But as you said it was a tribute !

STILL pumpin out great set after great set...never cheesed out, never sold out, never lost his touch..
Simply does not get any better than Hernan
No Laurent Garnier does a similar thing in his sets. He plays Nancy Sinatra - These Boots Red Astaire - Break On Through, The Doors - Soul Kitchen etc. I know some people go mad for it, I just don't see whats great about it. Laurent's sets would be a million times better without them tracks.
If 2ManyDJs had done it I think it would work better because its more in line with what 2ManyDJs do as DJs
^^ Well, you're of course entitled to your opinion... but personally, I'd say lighten up It's not meant to be taken so super seriously as the epitome of the DJ art, just a small novelty at the very end of a long DJ set. Steve Lawler used to throw in a pop tune at the end of his sets on occasion, and he would actually do it so cleverly that it was really amusing to witness - even if it wasn't like a track that you would go buy on iTunes and listen to on repeat by yourself. To me, it's actually sometimes nice to see the DJ do something fun and off the wall that connects in a different way with the audience, just for a moment...I'd rather see that than some super serious DJ dude douching it up the entire night. Just my $.02

then if too many dj's do it , it would get old and not be special at all .
Here is how danny howells finished his set in Argentina , some people liked it and some people hated it , but what can't be denied is that everybody will always remember how he finished his set that night contrary if he would have ended with some high banging pro techno track that people would forget.
@ Didi , Hawtin was spinning on 2007 Billy jean quite often and people were loving it , How do you go from minimal to billy jean ? I don't know I guess that is what makes him a Great dj , to know when to drop it , there has to be some special ingredients to drop a track like that in the middle of some tech /minimal gig .
Sven vath did the same thing he dropped it when it was convenient , what's worng with that?
Here's some perspective: Personally at the end of a 12hr bender and I hear a DJ drop a funky/cool/retro track as an encore I wouldn't give a fuck and dance to it.
I've heard Digweed drop the Chemical Brothers remix of Kylie Minogue's Slow at the end of a set and I didn't know what the hell it was and it was still cool.
I've heard Garnier drop some fucking French folk music at the end of an NYE marathon set and people still lap it up while he is on the mic bitching about us not leaving the dance floor.
Really, you've had a good night, the encore is just a bonus. I'm not gonna complain.

Oh. My. God. James absolutely obliterated the island tonight. The last time there was so much destruction, Obi Wan Kenobi had to take a seat on the Falcon after the Death Star said "hi and bye" to Leia's homeworld.
I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.
It's odd.
I was at that party when Howells dropped that Turtles' song.
It kind of killed the mood. The party was dark as hell, with Hernan and Danny killing eachother in the B2B... odd, that's what I think.
And with Sven... I don't know. You wait something else from these type of djs. All the talentless djs are playing MJ's songs now that he's dead... so what's the point?
So 20% or so are not going to enjoy this kind of ending...sounds like good odds to me.
I don't prefer ends like posted in this topic too. It sounds strange, but I like the tracks. It's more that it's way to cliché (don't know if this is proper English). They start for example a track like Thriller. Great track, but the next 5 minutes there will be no more suprises, because you already know when the hands go up in the sky and everybody starts to sing.
Give me Sven Vath with tracks like Dave Clark - Just Ride (starts @ 6 min) and I will dance like crazy .
