Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009

The poll is the same trance guys each year so no need to complain again. Pretty much what I expected. Interesting to me is that trance is a genre that's been on the decline for the entire decade. I'm more interested in the Residentadvisor poll.

I sort of do care actually! I would love to see my favourite Dj given the recognition he deserves. Aside from the fact that I just never know when to give up

What do you think matters more to him di, recognition from some magazine poll, or recognition from the people that love his music?

^People always say that getting on the top 100 list is important for getting gigs, but does any promoter seriously say to themselves 'hmm who should I book to play next month... time to check out the top 100 djs list!'? I could imagine that happening if they were putting on a commercial night or something, but I'd think that any prog/techno promoter would already be familiar with any djs on the list that would suit their kind of night.

It seems to work for Trance Djs. Btw I have actually seen and enjoyed Ferry Corsten !

Would probably like both And the magazine poll is a very tangible way to show support. Ultimately this one is absolute crap though !! And in fact, there are too many variables for any to be really accurate on any level.

But wouldn't you feel good if your Dj was listed as No. 1,?? and wouldn't you want to boast about it just a little ??. Sigh , just a little dream

It would be nice, but unfortunately when you poll a large group of people, the most generic, widely appealing choice is likely to come out on top. Poll for the best dj, and it will be armin or tiesto instead of hernan. Poll for the best musician, and it will be britney spears rather than john coltrane. Poll for the best book and it will be the davinci code rather than the old man and the sea. It's quite sad to think about.

I don't think Dave Seaman has played The Gallery since he fell out of the top 100. Then again they book Jimmy Van M who hasn't been in the top 150 since 2001

why is there so much negativity about trance?

the lowest common dominator is equally applicable to minimal and
some of the music that's been in the boxes of S&D over the last few years!

I'm sorry but the likes of Tiesto/Ferry/Armin/PVD totally deserve to be where they
are! They put bums on seats at the end of the day!

I didn't see many people complaining when Blue Fear was included on Northern Exposure 2?

I haven't stopped playing Markus Schulz's Toronto CD1 which has some older progressive sounding tracks at the beginning and his Cold Harbour label has been consistently good since it's inception!

I did like Corsten's dance dept 2001 mix, but it's 2009 didn't realize he had any sort of following as of late...clearly he must, but who are these people?

It was fun while it lasted...
