It's a reflection of the all round package! People that vote are not necessarily seeing the Dj's in clubs I don't believe!
    A fair reflection of what??

    Involver 2 is old.

John has done heaps of great stuff this year!!

It's as DQ said, the trance and house Djs are more mainstream , it's not a negative thing necessarily . The reactions of most people here just reflect the style of music that the majority like best. Nothing wrong with that either. Just different tastes.

I think you are kidding yourself if you don't believe marketing has an effect though All of a sudden all those Djs whose mailing lists I am on thought I was worth contacting

Like I said before I don't agree with the people who think that the reason these DJ's are getting voted for is because of marketing companies. It doesn't matter how much you market a product if people don't like it its going to fail. They are also assuming that people can't formulate rational thought as to whether they actually like something or not. Instead they like to believe this people are swayed by some marketing mumbo jumbo, they saw a couple of YouTube videos and read a few blogs or magazine reviews. If Digweed employed a marketing company do you really think he would score much higher in the poll next year. I would be interested to know what these companies would do to improve his profile and his score. Not much I think. Has anyone here voted for a DJ because they got spammed. No I don't think so. The only mailing lists I'm on I'm on because I signed up to them. Marketing companies mite get you exposure but Perception Without Awareness that's a tall order.

Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009

I think there is definitely an effect or else why would they all do it ??
You are right about products people don't like failing. But if you are made aware of a Dj you like at the right time you are more likely to vote for them.

I'm amazed that you don't seem to think that Digweed doesn't employ if not a marketing company , at the very least people to help him market himself It would be part of his whole management strategy! Although he may not need it, he does a pretty good job of marketing himself. And all power to him !! Why have all this talent and not spread the word !!

I didn't call it spam because they are sites I have signed up to. What I did say that is that I never hear from them unless they either want me to vote for them, or buy something

Re: DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll 2009

For how many years has this poll been going? I'm curious about the last time when either/both of Sasha & Digweed were out of the top 10? (I haven't been following the discussion here; apologies if this has already been talked about ) It would definitely seem like a greater proportion of trance-lovers have been buying the magazine, anyway, if we have the likes of Bobina (with all due respect, who?) ahead of Diggy.

Back in the late 90s early 00s they were on top (probably a list somewhere if u google it)
Basically when Progressive House was thee sound - they were on top of the list

But now thats gone and its Pop trance at the top which means Armin and co. are on top of the dj mag list

This poll far outweighs the readership of the magazine. To assume that the readership of the magazine gives a good account of what the poll indicates, indicates that you have never picked up a copy of the magazine. You just have to look at the covermount Cd's to make a rational assessment of their readership without actually looking inside.

Good point The last time I bought DJ Mag, or any music magazine for that matter, was last August for Digweed's covermount CD. So yeah, pretty much disregard what I've said

I never really gave it much thought as to wether Digweed employed a marketing company. Yes it could be part of his managment stratagy but if he has, they have failed him this year because he dropped 8 places down the chart.

I would be intreasted to know what David Guetta's marketing people did to fool people into making irrational dissisons the Digweeds marketing people didnt. Its almost like people like to insunate that they cheated in some way.

I think its obvious that someone whos on the UK top 10, making tracks with Akon and Kelly Rowland, is gonna have a lot more exposure than someone like John Digweed and therefore push themselves higher up the list?

Then again the dj mag list is probably more aimed at the more "non-chart" scene, or maybe not, i dunno

I remember in previous years in the run up to voting for the top 100, Digweed used to say at the end of his show not to forget to vote, did he do that this year???

Finally got round to actually checking out the results. Clearly I am completely out of touch because that is the worst top 100 I've ever seen.

I mean, each to their own and it would be boring if we all liked the same things, but I am just stunned by how bad that selection is. I can see why Mr C asked people not bother voting for him. What a joke and what a waste of time!

Yeah that's what I've been getting at. I don't think its to do with marketing teams or the belief that they can sway someone opinion as to liking something that they don't like.

yeah Digweed did mention the poll on his show

I think some DJ's really do dance music fans a real disservice with remarks like Mr C's, Lee Burridge made a similar one a few years back. It seems to me that they seem to think fans vote for whoever spams them the most and not who the fans actually like. Yes DJ's post links to the poll on their sites and canvas in different ways but that's the same with most polls. Tiesto told people not to vote for him last year.
