Never been there - my fav is the Hilal Balti House in Formby ... Sammi Hyppia always used to pop in for a takeaway.

They did an amazing chicken chaat/puri and the most fantastic tikka balti ... damn I'm hungry now.

Also the one in town Sultan's Palace in Victoria St it doesnt use gee in the menu either so you dont end up feeling rammed after the popadoms : 0

The basic Chicken Karahi thats made across pakistan. there is a better one too I'll see if I can write it down sometime soon.

1 chicken cut up into 2-4 inch pieces
                      1tsp Salt
                      1-2 tsp black Pepper
                      Green chilies
                      4-6 fresh roma tomatoes
                      Fresh Coriander
                      Cooking oil
                      Cayenne (red chili )power
Ginger (cut into about 2 inch long thin strips)

In wok add chicken black pepper, salt, chilli power and most of the ginger along with the 4-5 tsp of oil. Fry for 3-5 minutes and add tomatoes. Let it fry until the tomatoes completely turn into a sauce ( you might need to add some water to keep it from burning). Add the green chillies and let them cook in too. When the chicken is cooked cook down the sauce so its not too watery. When this happens add cilantro and the rest of the ginger and its done.

The sauce should have enough pepper to darken the colour of the tomatoes. The consistency of the sauce should not be watery at all and should somewhat stick to the meat.

                        Re: Curry Recipes

Here's an embarassingly easy recipe that produces amazing results (trust me ).

Everyone I've passed this onto has cooked it time & time again.

This spiced tomato and yogurt chicken is an easy and delicious recipe for a mild chicken curry. Good to enjoy with your family or an easy win for supper with friends.

                        Serves 4
                        Ready in 40 minutes

                        Ingredients
                        • 2 tbsp olive oil
                        • 6 skinless chicken breasts, cut into chunks
                        • 1 onion, thinly sliced
                        • 4 tbsp medium curry paste, such as Balti
                        • 400g can cream of tomato soup
                        • 200g natural yogurt
                        • 150g fine green beans, trimmed
                        • Juice of 1/2 lemon
                        • Small handful chopped fresh coriander, plus extra leaves to serve

                        1. Heat half the oil in a large frying pan over a medium-high heat. Add half the chicken and brown all over. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside. Repeat with the remaining oil and chicken. Set aside.

                        2. Add the onion to the pan and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes. Stir in the curry paste and cook for 2 minutes. Return the browned chicken to the pan and stir to coat in the curry paste. Add the tomato soup, then fill a quarter of the can with water and add to the pan, along with the yogurt. Bring to the boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 10-12 minutes, until the sauce has thickened up slightly.

                        3. Meanwhile, bring a small saucepan of water to the boil. Add the beans to the saucepan, cook for 2 minutes, drain, and refresh under cold water. Stir into the curry, cook for 2 minutes, then stir in the lemon juice and chopped coriander. Season to taste.

                        4. Divide between 4 deep bowls and garnish each with coriander leaves. Serve with rice, naan and a selection of Indian chutneys.

This one was good though i used fresh garlic, ginger and chillies instead of pastes and powder- even though no garlic in recipe

                                Bengali Zucchini curry

                                Ingredients:

                                2 zucchini, cubed

                                1 tsp ginger paste
                                1 tsp cumin powder
                                Salt to taste
                                1 tsp chili powder
                                A pinch of sugar
                                1 1/2 cup water
                                Oil for frying
                                Cilantro leaves for garnishing
                                Method:
                                1. Marinate the potato and zucchini cubes in salt and turmeric for 5 minutes.
                                2. Heat oil in a pan, and fry the marinated cubes for 5-6 minutes or until golden. Remove from heat and keep aside.
                                3. In the remaining oil, fry the ginger paste, cumin and chili powders for 2 minutes.
                                4. Now add tomatoes, fried potatoes and zucchini and fry for another 5-6 minutes.
                                5. Later add sugar, water and cook until it is done.
