Alex Metchev was born in 1973, in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. Around the age of 8 he became aware of his ardent passion for music and began exploring its infinity. He always looks for highly emotional and innovative art forms and feels a strong drive to let others hear the precious music he discovers. This desire urged him to start DJing professionally in 1996. Every summer for about ten years he kept visiting the USA to buy equipment and music unavailable or awfully expensive in Bulgaria. That was until 2004 when the long awaited online market for download releases emerged.
Alex Metchev first weekly parties: 1996 in his home town Stara Zagora and 1997 in Blagoevgrad where he was studying at the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG). Around that time he launched his first radio show on AUBG's radio station Aura and played for the first time abroad - in Macedonia. Several months later he began playing regularly at the Metropolis events which back in the 90’s were about the only major thing happening for electronic music in Bulgaria. He graduated from AUBG in 1998 and moved to Sofia where he joined his fellow DJs from Metropolis in their weekly parties at the clubs Garbage and Energy. In the same year he went on his first DJ tour at a number of clubs in Bulgaria and started a radio show called "Synthesis" on radio Vitosha.
In 1999 Alex Metchev helped his friend Steev-G to organize the first big trance event in Bulgaria - Vortex and launched his latest radio show Flash on RFI Bulgaria which lasted for about 5 years. In 2000 and 2001 he co-organized a series of events with the biggest Bulgarian club Indigo and brought for the first time in Bulgaria world renowned trance DJs and artists such as Astral Projection, Shakta, Synchro, Atmos, SUN Project, Tsuyoshi, Mark Allen, X-Dream and Mike McGuire from Juno Reactor.
In March and April 2003, as a resident DJ and promoter of club Cacao, Sofia Alex Metchev brought for the first time on a club scale in Bulgaria global DJ celebrities such as James Holden, Chris Fortier and Max Graham. He was a resident DJ of club Stacione Inferno, Sofia from November 2003 till its closing in 2005. In that same year he did some major international talent bookings for the clubs Chervilo, Sofia and Plazma, Plovdiv (Matthew Dekay, Ashley Casselle, Chris Fortier, Slacker, Yahel, Astrix). He was the resident DJ of the legendary Cacao Beach for the summer of 2006 and currently is a resident DJ and music manager of Toba&Co, Sofia. He has been playing weekly at Toba&Co since 2005 and it seems to be the best place for him ever, a place not so big but visited by mature and intelligent people who truly appreciate his music selections and mixes.
Some world renowned DJs Alex Metchev shared a stage with: Josh Wink, Sven Vath, Jeff Mills, Chris Fortier, James Holden, Slacker, Max Graham, Jonathan Lisle, Steve Gerrard, Sultan, Dr. Kucho, Armand Van Helden, Matthew Dekay, Ashley Casselle, Shiloh, Gabriel & Dresden, Takio Ishino, CJ Bolland, Marco Zaffarano, Cari Lekebusch, Gaetano Parizio, Darren Price, Tsuyoshi, Christian Varela, etc.
