Re: Sasha & Digweed b2b - Space Opening Party - May 31, 2009
^^ I rather understood the comment .. .but also think people are all too quick to rave about music or put it down. There's so much out EDM there and it's changed that much over recent times that you can't please everyone.
I listen to a heck of a lot of music from many different periods and genres. I appreciate EDM from a home listening perspective and from being in clubs across the world from the early 90's to the current time.
I do find certain comments can be disrespectful to the producers and the DJ's.
I actually really liked Sasha's part - I've seen and heard enough duds/stinkers over the years - he's a very inconsistent DJ ... but when he's on form, there's no-one better.
To my taste a summer vibe brings out some of the best in Sasha as anyone that's seen him on a terrace will testify. I loved his "thank you"mix from amnesia last year. I also enjoy when he breaks things down late on in his sets and plays beautiful tracks as he did recently at fabric (the banging tracks bordering on techno to tech house didn't do the same for me).
I have my opinions .. as do others. But like to put mine across and be supportive of the artists and dj's I love, that have given me tremendous enjoyment over the years.
John's part didn't mirror his recent sets. But he does get through lots of new music - having played a set earlier that day at Space of Sound he may have fancied other tracks.
Plus unless you've been inside Space you will not appreciate just how fantastic the sound system is and how powerful it can be. Even the most innocuous of tracks turn into monsters in that Discoteque. Plus you need to understand the crowd's reaction.
They actually played 4 x hours, so JD may well have started low key and left room for the set to develop.
