Haven't heard mention of it being recorded. Do they often record at Chinese Laundry??

I wish . The event here is Likes of You event. Not my favourite promoter. Their concerns are more about getting as many people into the venue as possible rather than doing anything for either the punters or the Djs . They are really pushing everyone else, Oxia, Audion, Omar S , not Dubfunk!! Dubfunk is the only reason I am going. !! I doubt he will get a long set, and I unless he records that would be just too much trouble for them. And of course no extra money for them!!

Well set times are out !! And have I mentioned how much I hate this promoter!! 1 1/2 hours starting at 5.00am !!!

Just to refresh what I said previously

Likes of You is part of Future. This my opinion ! Basically I think they are crap. They run nights of, once again in my opinion, pretty aggressive second rate international Techno Djs. Our local techno guys are usually the highlight of these nights. Then they throw is a token prog Dj to pull in a bigger crowd. The crowds are very random , pushy etc. They seem to be concerned mainly with pulling punters in and that is it. They have no respect for the Djs. On two occasions I know of they have actually blamed the Djs for sound problems. They do get some good Djs merely because they have the money to buy them and recoup using the marketing strategy I outlined above.

I really wish they hadn't proved me so right !!

Here's a bit more I said. Lets see how much of thiis comes true as well !!

It's the huge gap between doing it for the money and doing it for music. The Sydney show for Hernan and Loco Dice was a prime example. Apparently the sound was awful, Hernan got through it , but it got worse for Loco Dice and he walked off early. As well as all the other problems they had there.

The things that Sunny and Darkbeat do like make sure the aircon , fans and most importantly, sound etc are all functioning properly certainly aren't done by LOY !

What I said before , they book different Djs purely to get a few more punters through the door .

If you look at the lineup there are no real top layer Djs there. Some over the hill, some climbing it, and some will just never get to the top No one would have cost very much. It's all about saying we have X number of internationals.

They actually had the nerve to say this

Am sure Dubfunk is appreciative of being involved in such a big show, having his name promoted for the last 3 months and playing the main room. For an emerging artist, this show is a great step forward.

Forget that he was on the bill with Satoshi and Nick Warren at the same venue earlier in the year. My answer

Seriously I will be there and as long as he plays I will dance. But it just seems so disrespectful to him. The chance of him getting the audience he deserves is mininal to non existent .I want these great Djs to have as fun as we do !! I want them to want to come back. !! Promoters like this do us a great disservice

He played an hour and a half here too in sydney , by the time he finished it wasn't really enough and everyone wanted more, he was on the top form and control since i came in till the end , the set were getting bigger & darker all the way...an extra hour or 2 would have been a slammer.

Shame he came all the way down to OZ for such short sets , perth seems to be getting the best of the tour with a 3 hrs set!!

A review on the laundry night just got posted on ITM, after reading it, it made me want to come all the way down to melbourne on friday

At 2:30AM Dubfunk took over the controls and proceeded to dispel any doubts about whether he and Omar S was a good pairing of internationals. One could really tell that he is a professional, because instead of just starting his set fresh, without any consideration for what had been played before him, the Egyptian progressive house maestro started off with a good twenty minutes of rolling, funky grooves (including Darius Bassiray & Paul Benyon’s fantastic Jeebuz Champ) that slowly built up in intensity and flowed on perfectly from Omar’s deep, sublime ending. Before long he’d worked up to some crunchy, driving progressive house such as Hit Me by Presuming Ed, as well as a new Erphun remix and then in his final twenty minutes just belted out dark, rolling techno that had the loyal faithful who stuck around cheering like nobody’s business. A fantastically programmed closing set from a future hero of the dance music world.

All I can really say to close this review is the following: go and buy Omar S’s Fabric CD, go and buy Dubfunk’s releases on Beatport, and then do your best to relive the awesome.
