This week’s mix provides all you dear listeners with some soul – of the electronic variety of course – courtesy of electronic legends GusGus.
They may hail from one of the coldest areas on the planet – Reykjavik in Iceland – but GusGus’ music is full of a warmth which can’t fail to warm the cockles of even the most hardened of beat-heads. Having gone through more line-up changes than Van Halen, GusGus have now settled on a solid combination featuring former member Daníel Ágúst back in the picture – a winning arrangement judging by latest album ‘24/7’ (released on 14 September), which shows the band to be fully at ease with their sound and as sharp as ever.
Veering between vocal-led tracks, trip-hop and house flavours and abstract electronica, GusGus have more than a few strings to their musical bow – reflected in their intriguing mix for Clash, which has a refreshingly European air to it.
The mix features a beautiful Supermayer remix of a track by Belgian singer-songwriter Gotye, several choice cuts by very capable minimal house/afro-beat Berliners Wareika and a superb remix of ‘Tiergarten’ (again courtesy of Supermayer), by the modern day king of croon Rufus Wainwright which turns out to be a truly fantastic way to end a mix. Good work GusGus.
