sweetness, I know it may seem as though I am ignoring your Question but the problem is I have tested it out and I dont have a solution to how to make it work. Problem with hitting tab is usually when you maneuver your way to the Quick Reply Box by hitting Tab, type in your message, then hitting tab again would take you to the smilies and then the submit button.

Directly clicking in the quick reply box and hitting tab thereafter will take you to the browsers last remembered position of tab i.e. the very first spot. I could implement the Alt + S feature where it will send the message after you type it in but I will have to look for that mod

I know absolutely nothing about phpBB so I've got what's probably a stupid question. How come sometimes the board has to go down for an upgrade, but other times there are changes that seem to happen in about 5 minutes while we're still up? Usually with the upgrades (notice I say usually) I don't even notice a difference. But today there have been several tweaks and it's all gone seemlessly. Just curious.

well here's the deal..... when I have to make serious changes to the source code of the forums (like I did with the sub forums mod 2 nights back), the upgrade was implementing several changes on the database end of how the sub-forums mod worked. In addition to that, the number of changes I had to make to the phpbb source code were SO MANY, it would have been easier to clean install the entire forum and re-add the mods.....

now since the DB had to be re-installed for this upgrade, I knew it would create a problem with the previous version of the forums giving errors so I had to install the DB on a location to do the test. Once the DB was set up, I had to essentially migrate all the data.... that's where the locking up of the forums came into effect because moving a database with about 90,000 posts is not a walk in the park. Especially because from remote location, I can only upload about 10,000 posts at a time and that takes about 35 minutes for each update.

Secondly, if I moved everything over and left the board open, then we have people still posting on here and signing up.... in effect, the forum loses all the new members + posts since my last backup till the backed-up db is uploaded and the forum is online..... so its safer to not have people post or sign up to ensure nothing is missed....

now all the "features" (mod installs), while they still change the forums code, they do not "edit" the db to the extent something will go wrong (plus I've learnt a thing or two about coding), they simply add to the so I dont need to take down the backend and so most mod installs happen in real time....
