This week’s mix sees Echaskech taking control of proceedings. Relative newbies to the scene Echaskech have already made an impression with their own blend of electronica, ambient textures and choppy beats, as showcased on their extremely well-received second album (released in August), ‘Shatterproof’, which recalls a dubbed-out Orbital – certainly no bad thing.
Incorporating visuals into their work, particularly their live shows, has always been important to Echaskech ever since their first gig in Brick Lane, three years ago. Since then, Echaskech have gone from strength to strength, playing with the likes of James Holden, Nathan Fake and a string of recent festival appearances over the summer.
Their exclusive Clash mix features a track from ‘Shatterproof’ – ‘On Your Mind’ – which closes the mix, but not before we’ve been exposed to a fine combination of heavy, brooding synth lines, dark ambience and jagged, jungly two step beats. Featured artists include trippy electronic multi-instrumentalists Floating Points, the Modeselektor/Apparat hybrid Moderat and a Burial remix of Bloc Party. Some nice choices…
