if your going to spend over 150-200... all the reviews in the world mean nothing...you have to listen to a pair of headphones. my mate bought a pair of Sennheiser HD650 which are about £200 so about 400 us dollars and he raved and raved about them... luckily i had a listen before buying because i didnt like them at all... Personal when it comes to sound be it headphones or speakers you have to listen before buying because everyone listens to music differently. people go on and on about bass... mid is far more important it were the heart of a track lies

a good marker of a good set of headphones is that they have the large jack as stanard and the attachment is from big to small... dont know the technical terms...soz..lol

i listened to all i could get my hands on in the apple store (so Bose, sennheisser and beats by dre primarily) and also at the guitar centre (beyer DT770 and 880, Shure 840's and another brand beginning with e) at a similar price range. However, these Denons are the best for me with the music I tested with.

I went for the following test tracks (amongst others)

the bassline track - medway (which i am sure everyone knows)
Seafoam - Vibes (track 3 off fabric 15 CD1)
Nathan Coles - Raasbucket (tyrant 2)
Jefferis Lee - Echo Jazz (tyrant 2)
DJ Linus - K.B.'s Groove (tyrant 2)
Heiko Laux The Silent Bass (Danny Howells 247)
Blinded by the lights - the streets
Beethovens 9th symphony
Love Supreme track 2 - john coltrane
All i need - radiohead
use somebody - kings of leon

For the non bass heavy electronic tracks i would say the Shures were the most detailed, but they definitely lacked in the bass department a bit with the electronic stuff. You can get them for 116 dollars online which is an absolute bargain compared to the 200 dollars at guitar centre. However, I am really happy with the clarity, bass response and comfort of these Denons. I would recommend them to anybody (except Palmer).

well, all my crates are in seattle atm, and my technics had to be sold, so i'm stuck here with a grip of digital to mix with... and it blows. yes, vinyl craps on digital all day any day.
