With previous and planned releases on much-respected dub and grime labels Tectonic, Earwax and Senseless, Jack Sparrow has been steadily making an impact on the scene since his debut in 2007 – a pattern which looks set to continue with the release of his anticipated Tectonic label debut, set to drop in 2010.
As a precursor to this album, Sparrow presents an exclusive ‘roots of influence’ mix for Clash, giving a glimpse into his own musical psyche while simultaneously providing a fine soundtrack for all.
Doing exactly what it promises, the ‘roots of influence’ mix showcases some timeless hip hop, dubstep and jungle tracks that have shaped Sparrow’s own impressive tech-dub output, as well as the direction of countless other players in countless scenes.
Featured artists include Burial, Leftfield, Photek Plastikman (a Richie Hawtin alias) and the mighty LFO, whose marvellous self-titled track still sounds ace and provides a fine electronica counterpoint to the entrancing heavy beats and bass of the rest of the mix.
