Report: Sasha & Nick Warren @ Ministry of Sound

Well...it was the Ministry's 18 Birthday and boy did they celebrate it in style. I saw Sasha at the Ministry in February where he played for 5 hours so it was always on the cards getting back their to see him as soon as he was next booked to play there-especially as Nick Warren was hosting 'The Box' with him.

I know that the Ministry has good and bad press with regards to its commercial ventures etc, but one thing I believe they nailed is the club itself. I think it is vastly underrated as a club, I love it. The main room, 'The Box' is a dark room with a real warehouse feel to it, the lighting rig is awesome, the strobes were quite strong! The main feature is however, the sound system, by God it packs some punch. It really is something to behold, depending on where you are stood, the vibrations from certain records make you feel rather queasy and the look on Sasha's face as he used the breakdowns to pummel the dancefloor with the first kick drum was brilliant.

Nick Warren opened up 12-2, playing Dosem 'Beach Kisses' which got a great reaction and his set was brilliant. Lovely melodies setting the room up really well for Sasha.

Soooo....the reason why I travelled, 'The Man Like'. This was my 10th time seeing him this year, it has been a pretty solid year so it made the decision to travel to London a lot easier. He opened with Gus Gus 'Add this Song' (Original Mix) which had the room going wild-as I said-the sound system really complimented this record. The first two and a half hours flew by and then around 4:30AM, he went back to back with Nick Warren. Nick Warren took over with Killahurtz 'West on 27th Street'-which had our gang going mental. I can't remember how long they played for back to back, but it wasn't long, as Nick just let Sasha play on as he was really really enjoying himself.
Moment of the night by far was when he dropped Breeder 'The Chain'. I know the first few bars of this so well that I knew what was coming-and when it kicked in it sounded immense!

As much as Simonr will kill me for saying it (only because I moan that he plays it all the time) but Paul Kalkbrenne
r's 'Gebrünn Gebrünn' really really rocked the room. He also played Apparat 'Arcadia' (Invol2ver Mix), Cirez D 'On/Off' and two tracks that have really stood out this year; Paul Woolford 'Hierbas' and Nhar 'Afterburner'. Both sounded banging on that sound system.

The night was scheduled to finish at 7 but Sasha went on until 7:45, ending on what he started with, Gus Gus 'Add this Song', which rippled through that sound system. It was a great way to end the night, but I wasn't thankful for the fact I had to sprint to catch my train home. Queue a few dishevelled looks from tourists as I was walking through Central London!

So that was that, Ministry is 18, Sasha destroyed it (Again). Hope this isn't too boring a read. Missed my main man Simonr, my major partner in crime but I am sure we can make it up at Bedrock 11!

Very nice report ... sounds like a great night Dan !

I'd have been falling asleep if I'd travelled after going to Anfield - so I had to sit on the subs bench for this.

The Chain must have made the trip worthwhile for that record alone ... hope he plays it at the WHP in December !

    ... but where's the pics ?

Re: Report: Sasha & Nick Warren @ Ministry of Sound

Yeah on a roll with Coe this year-cost me an arm and a leg mind! I took a few on my iPhone but the camera is pretty whack so nothing of note. I had a brief look online but couldn't find any!

No Ladytron this time (and yes Simon you know I fucking love that record!), no Doves either. Panoptic 'Surface' is another one that was played, it keeps coming back to me in parts. Pretty hazy to be honest. Sasha did get a bit 'ploddy' and 'samey' at times but he was really pulling out the records that he knew would have a devastating effect on the dancefloor! At times I thought I was going to be sick because of the vibrations from the speakers.

Yeah 11 will be the WHP after Bedrock! Tortuga we will have to all meet up for a scoop before the WHP.

PS Simon in the Ministry it was buy 4 Corona's and get a 5th free-just like one night back in May!
