    Gotta love unions

The U.S. Postal Service, struggling with a massive deficit caused by plummeting mail volume, spends more than a million dollars each week to pay thousands of employees to sit in empty rooms and do nothing.
It’s a practice called “standby time,” and it has existed for years — but postal employees say it was rarely used until this year. Now, postal officials say, the agency is averaging about 45,000 hours of standby time every week — the equivalent of having 1,125 full-time employees sitting idle, at a cost of more than $50 million per year.
Mail volume is down 12.6 percent compared with last year, and many postal supervisors simply don’t have enough work to keep all employees busy. But a thicket of union rules prevents managers from laying off excess employees; a recent agreement with the unions, in fact, temporarily prevents the Postal Service from even reassigning them to other facilities that could use them.

So they sit — some for a few hours, others for entire shifts. Postal union officials estimate some 15,000 employees have spent time on standby this year.
Post office is headed the way of GM unless some fed steps in and cuts out the stupidity.

“It’s just a small, empty room. … It’s awful,” said one mail processing clerk who has spent four weeks on standby time this summer. “Most of us bring books, word puzzles. Sometimes we just sleep.”
Cry me a f-ing river! Whah...I'm making $20.00+ an hour w/govt. benefits to do nothing. Wanna trade jobs?!?

seriously... the guy says its horrible and yet he probably does nothing to go look for a new, more lucrative job. i'm sure there are some that go find themselves a better job, but i can guarantee you the majority of these people are content with doing nothing and getting paid.
Should I fuck you at that not until the ass, inject then tremendously hard bumschen and to the termination in the eyes yes?

^thanks for saying something Miro, I agree completely.

the US postal service is a helluva good value to, 2-day priority mail is the best! I think the service they offer is outstanding, but then again we mail out hundreds of pieces of mail per week.

It was fun while it lasted...

                There is something worse...

The Labor Department said on Friday non-farm payrolls dropped by 263,000, marking the 21st straight monthly decline and helping to lift the unemployment rate to a 26-year high of 9.8 percent from 9.7 percent in August.

And unions are in Obama's pocket...along with the megabankers. Good job, America, you dumbfucks. Of course, both candidates would have ultimately been ruled by these same hands. They are ensuring a nasty violent revolution in the near future...I just hope I'm dead when that happens.

yep. nothing like wasting a quarter of a year for a measly what 35K net?

Sad part is most of 'em could easily study and learn a new skill in that time that would pay them a lot more...but they won't.

I "work" (actually doing something) less then that and am projected to make the same!
