I don't see what the big deal is with this. It's not taking away anyone's right to bear arms. And your right to bear arms already does not give you the right to wield your weapon with complete impunity anyways; the law rightly restricts what you can/can't do with your gun in many ways. Nothing new there.

the problem with this, in case you guys did not hear or just dont give a crap.

who decides when you have too much ammo?

Man About To Become U.S. Citizen Arrested For Having Too Much Ammo

                May 23, 2009

This is indecent to say the least and it happen in the great police state of Massachusetts. Keni Garcia, who recently moved from New Hampshire to Massachusetts, was arrested and held without bail because he had 30,000 round of ammunition – .38 caliber, 9mm and .22 caliber. He also owns those guns.

Garcia, from the Dominican Republic and scheduled to become a U.S. citizen yesterday, was arrested while driving his car yesterday. Police found 10,000 rounds of ammo in his car. After searching his home, police confiscated another 20,000 rounds of ammo, one .38-caliber and two 9 mm handguns, and $25,000 in cash.

So, where’s the crime? Garcia says the ammo is for target shooting. Police say that’s unrealistic. Is it? I don’t think it is and even if it is “unrealistic”, what’s the crime? Is it a crime to possess “too much” ammunition?

^^Come on guy, are you serious? I'm sure he just decided on a whim to purchase 75,000 rounds of ammunition for his new found interest in target practice with his brand new .38 and 9mm. Does that sound normal to you?

But that's besides the point, he wasn't a citizen of the US nor was he licensed to possess those firearms.

                        mass.gov press release

Garcia was arrested in Haverhill yesterday afternoon as the result of a week-long cooperative investigation that started with the ATF in New Hampshire, and ultimately included the Massachusetts ATF, ICE Special Agents, Plaistow, New Hampshire Police, Haverhill Police, and the Massachusetts State Police Drug Unit assigned to the Office of Essex District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett.

The investigation revealed that Garcia, who had driver’s licenses in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire, recently displayed a large sum of cash in an effort to purchase 55,000 rounds of ammunition in New Hampshire. Investigators also discovered that Garcia had recently purchased at least 20,000 rounds of ammunition and three high capacity pistols in New Hampshire, using a phony New Hampshire address to do so. He is not licensed to possess any type of firearm in Massachusetts.

when there is a crime involving a handgun the police will now waste more time looking for a bullet that will not be on the list instead of looking for the person who fired the firearm.because most people who commit crimes with firearms got them from some cartel funnel or street thug.

i am all for acountability. lets just make sure we are doing the right things the right ways. and a little bit more thought on the subject might help as well.

                          got to love it.

They already get the bullet anyways (in every case they can) - and it's usually not hard, because the bullets are either in someone's head or embedded somewhere in the crime scene. Weapons ballistics are pretty much standard and important components of many gun murder cases by now... So there is no "wasted time."

And the fact that they get the bullets and do ballistics doesn't preclude them from also hunting down the suspects. They do that already, too.

If the bullet is not on the list, then they're no worse off from a prosecutorial standpoint than they are today. If it is on the list, then that can help as part of the body of evidence that can lead to the right conviction.

Sounds good to me. More potential evidence is generally better than less.

As long as you don't go putting your bullets into peoples' heads, you should be fine. It doesn't infringe on your Second Amendment right; you have the right to have your gun, but you've never had the right to do anything and everything in the world you want with your gun and avoid responsibility for it. Nothing has changed there.
