Cielo presents one of techno’s original pioneers since the early 90s, Frankfurt’s Chris Liebing as he makes his triumphant return to New York celebrating 10 years of his influential CLR label on Friday, October 16,2009.
Chris Leibing is a DJ, producer, radio host of a weekly show, and the driving force behind the labels CLR and Spinclub Recordings. His sound has continuously evolved during his DJ career, while always staying true to his Techno roots. He was one of the first DJs that harnessed the new possibilities during the course of the digitalization of music in a consequent and creative way. The real-time manipulation of the individual elements plays an important role in his sets. Due to his outstanding cooperation with various software and hardware makers, his current setup offers him practically endless possibilities.
The German native describes his production style and DJ sets as having a pumping sound he calls “schranz” - a European hard style of techno that’s typically played at around 150–170 bpm based on massive kick drums, driving percussion, and distorted looping synthesizer noises. He is a DJ that is requested worldwide, and is also part of the Collabs live act, together with the Dutch producer Speedy J. His productions and remixes appear in the playlists of numerous renowned DJs. The result of this has been his awarding of the prestigious title of the country’s leading DJ at the German Dance Awards, beating stiff competition from the likes of Paul van Dyk, Sven Väth and Westbam.
