Wow what a story coming out of italy. An Italian Court convicted 23 CIA agents of kidnapping. Not just that but another story coming out is they raped some with broken bottles and boiling them alive?!?! The CIA is out of control. They need a serious attitude adjustment.
UPDATE: One of the 23 American citizens convicted in an Italian court of kidnapping a Muslic cleric in 2003 says the CIA "broke the law" when it ordered the operation.Sabrina DeSousa, a former CIA operative, told ABC News that the agency and the US government "betrayed and abandoned" her and the oth...
where does it end though Chloe?? I mean you can't just hide behind "Oh they are dirty.. we know that." Your CIA is wrecking peoples lives and torturing people. It is disgusting. I thought for sure you would have agreed with me on this one. It is sad to think that the CIA could come in my house in Canada, kidnap me, torture me, and even kill me all in the name of security. What security is that?
erm i am agreeing with you for once and you are trying to attack me dude.
i agree they are fucked. what else can i do?
i'm sure as fuck not going to get involved in government. i want to live a good life and i want to have children and not have to worry about my family being blown up by retards.
That can't be because you are the home of the brave.. I'm not trying to be on the attack but duck and run won't cut it anymore. I myself for instance have been taking a stance up here in Canada because Cops all of a sudden can have these checkpoints that they say are RIDE programs to catch drunks but in reality it is to get people used to cops going through your things and infringing on your rights. They are doing them Wednesday at 1 in the afternoon I went through one today. Eventually there will be cameras in your houses.
dude, let me preface this by noting that I am 1000% against torturing people and raping people with broken bottles, but I there are a number of clues in this article that make it clear that we need not "[e]xpect something to happen soon to take all of this negative press off."
They were convicted in absentia (i.e. weren't there and mounted no defense on their own behalf), the facts do not appear to be in dispute, and the trial was primarily designed as political theater to castigate the Bush Administration for its policies regarding extraordinary rendition. I don't think the result was really in dispute, and I don't think shockwaves are being felt at CIA headquarters right now. Italy isn't even seeking extradition, which should put to rest any question about the real goals of this trial.
Bush, Tenet, Rummy et al did some horrible, deplorable, un-American shit in the wake of 9-11, this just in. The good news is that they aren't the face of the country anymore. Let's calm down.
And just to be crystal clear about this, I don't have any problem believing that in 2003, we did what we are accused of having done, nor do I take the position that they wouldn't have been legitimately prosecuted if a real trial had been conducted.
I'm just suggesting that this is more a political act than a legal one, and it should be viewed as such.
