Right - need to choose my words carefully here, but I've absolutely had it with Beatport!
It has now got to the point where buying .wav releases from them is more expensive than going and buying a physical vinyl copy, which frankly is daylight robbery. Last time I checked, the whole point of downloading was to make things quicker and cheaper - they have no overheads, no physical copies to press and make sleeve artwork for. I just don't see how they can justify it.
I now buy most of my downloads through Juno as they are much more reasonably priced and they actually discount you for buying the full release - not just charge the full per track amount. Sadly DJDownload still only offer MP3 format.
Anyway, my point (!) - is there anyone stateside who might be interested in coming to some arrangement with me to purchase downloads from Beatport for me? I'd rather not use them (Beatport) at all, but they have exclusive arrangements with Simple, AUS and Bedrock (to name just 3) so I can't purchase the downloads elsewhere. I refuse to download illegally - I want to support these fine labels.
I can't check the equivalent US prices, but last time I checked they were running a £1 = $1 policy. I assume this is still the case and at the very least I should save money on the £1 charge extra per WAV download, hence the request.
To clarify, if anyone would be interested in helping me I will pay in full upfront for any releases I want - I just need someone to purchase the downloads and upload them somewhere for me to download. It would cost you nothing, and you have the added bonus of keeping anything you like for free! It wouldn't be a constant thing as I put most of my business through Juno and want to keep them going. It's just the odd release I can't get through Juno and a bit of back catalogue stuff.
I realise this is probably a bit of a gray area, but I'm sick of being fleeced by a US company for trying to support some of my favourite British labels (I guess this is how they fund all their Beatport exclusives - screwing their European customers). I don't see asking this as being any different to buying a CD or 12" direct from the States (which I often do).
Drop me a note if you'd be interested and we can discuss this further. Apologies if I've offended any of Beatport's satisfied customers - I'm sure there must be many or they wouldn't be doing so well.
