Civil war in the Congo ? again

There's something very wrong with the world when things aren't even reported let alone prevented...

On Sunday the civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), already responsible for 3.8 million deaths, started again. If you missed it, you?re in good company.

The Rwandan army appears to have crossed back into north-eastern DRC. Rival factions of the Congolese army ? some of them loyal to Rwanda ? have started fighting each other. As usual, it?s the civilians who are being killed ? and raped and tortured and forced to flee into the forest. Last week, before the fighting resumed, the International Rescue Committee reported that over 1000 people a day are still dying from disease and malnutrition caused by the last conflict. Nearly half of them are children under five.
Why does no one care that the world’s worst conflict has broken out again?

The war has never been over Mixu...

Lemme give you a little insight on this shit (I've studied the Rwandan genocide, and this is still sprouting from that period): Hutu militias in Congo have of late been crossing the borders more and more to attack Rwandan Tutsi's. Kagame had already warned Kabila that if he didn't take care of the problem (there's about 15.000 militia's still roaming the border region, pillaging and plundering villages to stay alive), he would do it himself.
Kanila has so far not undertaken any action, so the RPF-forces have crossed the border to hunt down the militias. And now, all of a sudden, Kabila wakes up and id offended by that 'invasion', while he himself could've prevented that.

I think the question here is: what advantage could Kabila have by not dealing with the militias? Destabilising Rwanda? Smuggling?

    Interesting question...

Well, the UN did a shitty job last time, they're doing a shitty job in Darfur right now, I don't see any reason for the UN to suddenly do a good job now...

Really fucked up Mixu, as you said. Unless Congo stabilizes in the near future and the state gets a grip on the country, there's gonna be a lot more dead people before things will settle down there. That is the problem with Congo; you can compare it a little with Somalia: the only difference is that in Congo the government is within the country borders.
Plans have been presented for a new Kinshasa, with skyscrapers and all kinds of architecture, but the m*therf*ckers don't even bother to pay attention to the rest of the country. Kagame is only looking to exterminate the Hutu militias, but I wouldn't mind him going all the way to Kinshasa to shoot that s.o.a.b. Kabila in the head. Thought Saddam was bad? Kabila is worse!

Getting the guns is easy: Congo is the richest country in Africa when it comes to it's natural resources. Diamonds, Coltan (a very rare metal, used in mobile phones), oil and Uranium are the biggest money-generating resources, and rebel groups that hold a diamond mine can easily purchase lots of weapons.
The state mainly owns the uranium mines, coltan mines and oil fields, although some of the latter have also been taken by rebel groups.

And the US, Russia and France are selling their weapons big time...though they'll never admit it.
