Well, I mentioned I’d found some old hotmixes on another thread. Unfortunately a lack of disc space and time meant I’ve been a bit slack in getting them out there. As this is my 100th post on MS I figured it was the perfect time to pull my finger out and upload them!
I still haven’t managed to find the Tyrant one but am planning a sort out over Christmas, so hopefully I will be uploading that one in January.
But for now... I don’t think any of these are in circulation (no pun intended!) so enjoy!
Paul Davis (Circulation) – Essential Selection Hotmix 12/01/2001
(presented by Seb Fontaine – Pete Tong was on holiday that week)
Circulation (Paul Davis & Matt Jackson) were one of the best production duos of the early to mid 2000s – their Colours 12”s were essential purchases (Magenta & Silver were my personal favourites). Turquoise was subsequently picked up for a full release by Hooj Choons in 2001, with Grey & Lime also getting the remix treatment on their Future Grooves Volume 2 EP later that same year.
Why these guys disappeared from the scene I have no idea. Here is a rare DJ set from them – sadly all too few are out there. They also provided mixes for Annie Nightingale in 2001 & The Essential Mix in 2002.
Tracklisting:
1.Circulation – Mindgames [White Label]
2.Jel Ford – Moving On EP [Jericho]
3.Kage – A Future Remembered [Fiji Recordings]
4.Circulation – Purple [Circulation]
5.Freelance Science – I Karumba [Freelance Science]
6.C .Varela – Unknown [Primate Recordings]
Pete Tong – Essential Selection Hotmix 26/01/2001
Pete Tong is a dance music legend who needs no introduction. Taking over Radio One’s flagship dance music station from Jeff Young in January 1991 and re-naming it the Essential Selection, he continues to reach dance music fans through that very same show today. The explosion of interest in dance music saw the Essential Selection briefly spawn a “Part 2” (which ran for an hour on Sunday nights immediately after the UK Top 40) between 1992 & 1993. Although this extra show was short lived, its replacement the Essential Mix continues to this day.
Tracklisting:
1.Coco Da Silva – Lost [Kismet]
2.Pete Heller Presents Stylus Trouble – Sputnik [Junior London]
3.H.C.C.R. – Suck My Clock [Sondos]
4.Dan Maxam – Energizer (Ian Wilkie Mix) [Poison Recordings]
5.Way Out West – Intensify [Distinct’ive Breaks Records]
Danny Howells – Essential Selection Hotmix 02/02/2001
My introduction to Danny came via his brilliant “Nocturnal Frequencies” mix series. One of the most forward thinking and inventive DJs, his style - described as "deepsexyfuturistictechfunkhouse" - still continues to find favour on dancefloors worldwide. Despite his longevity on the DJ circuit, Danny is one of the few who hasn't descended into the trap of merely trading on past glories or becoming a shadow of his former self.
Tracklisting:
1. Science Dept. Feat Erire – Breathe [Renaissance]
2. Yann Fontaine – Open Your Eyes (New Phunk Theory’s Little Green Dub) [Low Pressings]
3. Wilson Santos & Lunic – One Step Beyond (DJ Sandy & Housetrap Mix) [541]
4. Delerium – Innocente (Deep Dish Gladiator 1 Mix) [Nettwerk]
