The average Gothamite might not know the name Rob Fernandez, but every clubber, club owner, DJ, performer, and promoter does. Fernandez has been one of the primary movers in the Big Apple’s nightlife scene since the ‘80s, creating and producing some of the city’s definitive events and longest-running weekly parties. In the process, he’s helped launch DJs like Danny Tenaglia and Erick Morillo into international super-stardom.
The savvy promoter’s parties range from barebones and music-centered (Be Yourself Fridays with Danny Tenaglia, 1999-2004) to kitschy, crazy and over-the top (Asseteria Sundays, 2001-present). Anything’s possible at a Rob party: go-go girls riding mechanical bulls, six-foot drag divas dressed up as leprechauns, celebs rubbing shoulders with club kids. His collaboration with DJ Erick Morillo on the Subliminal Sessions event (1997-present) – which morphed from a sexy Thursday night soiree into Sunday morning after-hours bedlam – helped establish the DJ as NYC party powerhouse.
Fernandez isn’t always behind the scenes: Local and national media outlets have recognized his creativity with coverage and awards. He was dubbed a “New Yorker to Watch” and “New Yorker of the Year” by Time Out New York and New York Magazine respectively; and took home “Best Party” honors from the Dancestar Awards (two consecutive years for Be Yourself) and the Club World Awards (three consecutive for Asseteria) - both international contests. Dance.Here.Now, his Thursday and Tuesday night who’s-who in dance music with fellow promoter Benny Soto (718 sessions) was recently nominated for “Best Party” 2008 and has even allowed room to expand to Saturdays with the all new Dance.Here.Too at Santo's Party Haus.
Fernandez is currently the promotional director at Pacha New York, injecting the Ibizan brand with the type of New York attitude only he can provide. He himself has had every conceivable nightclub job, “from bar back on up,” and served as doorman at the legendary Sound Factory Bar for five years, before turning to promotions.
Come join us and celebrate a NYC party legend in the making...
