    House docu's

Going back in time gives me everytime a big smile from left to right. The drums, the funky beats and the screaming people, I love it. You can smell the energie rising and it was all about happiness and offcourse f*ck the rest of the world.

I was searching for some nice house docu's with that good old vibe. Have some stuff in Dutch, but I won't post it here because you guys probably can't understand it. They don't have to be from the 90's, because there are also some cool docu's from GU made around 2001/2002.

The links have all gone Pete Tong.

      The one starting here

is Channel Four's "Pump Up The Volume", a must-see!

          Awesome! Thanks for sharing..

Honestly, i don't know what I would listen to if there was no house beats around, it will be really sad. I mean sure.. there is a lot of good music out there from the 60s-70s, but nothing new excites me very much.

No mention of progressive house in the "pump up the volume" series..

Just finished watching the entire pump up the volume series, which pretty much ended by covering 2001... I was surprised a bit by how many really old tracks I listen to in Mike Huckaby's mixes, which are really good.

It was fun while it lasted...

Pump Up is a must-see, I told you, vintage Channel 4 quality. Some people argue that tracks like Pump Up itself, Bomb The Bass's, etc. aren't really dance tracks, but that shows the huge impact of Acid House, it was a mainstream phenomenon. Imagine a world were Acid is the big thing and not Jersey Shore or Katy Perry.

Another one is "A Short Film About Chilling", about the roots of the Balearic scene.

great!!!! I remember a post here with the three videos of "pump up the volume", but this is awsome! thanks a lot. I'd like to add the book "Electroshock" by Laurent Garnier. It has an underground point of view, but it has great stories and facts about the edm.

as far as I know, it started in two places at the same time: in the USA, after Bob Moog built his synth, and in the UK where Buchla built his synths, too. First it was like a scientific thing, experiments with sounds. In fact, synthesizers where built as sound labs (even the sinthy AKS was created as a portable sound lab). Due to commercial issues, they added a keyboard to the synths so that musicians could buy them and include them in their bands.
Wendy Carlos (Walter Carlos before the freaking out) played electronic music before Tangerine Dream. I don´t know if there was any well known electronic music band/artist before him. Anyone?

Raymond Scott is one of the commonly quoted names, you can still find his tracks in podcasts and dj sets.
Wendy/Walter, definitely, and John Carpenter (post-Kraut but still a huge influence).

If you watch the lecture by Theo Parrish I posted somewhere else, he explains how djs and wannabe producers in CHICAGO were obsessed by Kaftwerk. And the impact of Roland synths on the community (with DJ Pierre inventing the 303 "squelch" by turning knobs randomly, not being able to program the bassline properly).
Carl Craig and Underground Resistance came immediatly after that, but they invented the aesthetics and ethos, they had structures and themes. As documented in High Tech Soul - The Creation Of Techno Music.
