    Transitions (Episode 276) December 13th

Apologies for posting this weeks Transitions thread early and before the superior Kiss100 rip goes up on [ms]. I've got a busy Sunday, but wanted to make sure you have advance details of T276.

So keep an eye on our downloads section, as there are some brilliant tracks on this weeks show

As ever, Transitions 276 is full of up front music, showcasing diverse talents from the very best in forward thinking electronic music, and all brought together in another flawlessly crafted mix from John Digweed for you essential weekly listening.

Things get underway via dynamic duo Booka Shade with remixers supreme M.O.D.E. (Paul Read & Robert Passow aka "Disciples Of Sound") tackling that seminal classic "In White Rooms", widely played by the likes of John and Sasha in 2006, with Neo's remix appearing on Dubfire's GU31 Tapei.

Since M.O.D.E.'s discovery by John Digweed, and introduction to the wider public when their 10th Birthday take of Bedrock's Heaven Scent was unleashed on the EDM world, M.O.D.E. have gone from strength to strength, creating their own label as a platform for original work with support coming from luminaries including Sasha, Digweed, Garnier, Lawler, Cox, Cattaneo, Zabiela and Fanciulli to name but a few. M.O.D.E. have recently completed work on their remix EP (due mid-December) for Audio Therapy (with whom they now hold an extended working relationship having remixed Dave Seaman's Gobbledygook alongside the likes of Erphun), re-working Guy J's 'Shiver' and Nick Muir's 'Tenko' - the results are said to be "stunning". Never ones to stand still the guys are now remixing a Radio Slave track for Rekids and another track for Hernan Cattaneo's on his Sudbeat label.

M.O.D.E. have given In White Rooms their own stamp with a dark and broody opening, drawing you in before that familiar theme final hits you - great stuff.

Next it's the turn of prolific minimal vs tech house producer/dj Jesper Dahlbäck with the title track from his new "Dash One" EP, leading very nicely into some new world monkey business in the form of SMD's "Cruel Intentions". With a batch of 6 remixes scheduled for a January release John gives us an advance preview of the second of Heartbreaks remixes (a "Slow Action remix" will also be available along with interpretations by the likes of Joker, Geg Wilson and Maurice Fulton). This is a mighty fine track and should definately be checked out if deep soulful vocals are your bag.

Dutch DJ Producer Estroe belongs to an elite club of female techno DJ’s like Anja Schneider, Mistress Barbara, Monika Kruse and Magda. Initially inspired by early Detroit techno Estroe's music is described as sophisticated, with a warm and elegant style she soon appeared on the radar of dj’s like Laurent Garnier , Ripperton and Diggers, who was liked her minimalist masterpiece "Driven" enough to invite her to provide a 2008 guest mix for Transitions and remix Fortunato & Montresor's superlative "Imagine" for Bedrock 10. Here we get a remix of "Updraft", the original appears on Estroe's debut artist album "Elemental Assets". Tedd Patterson's remix definately hits the mark here.

After the break it's into some very fine deep house and time for yet another promo, in this case Marseille based label Brown Eyed Boyz Records which has been getting great comments of late from Neil Quigley, and a remix of Oliver Moldan's "Backseat Dreams" from Hamburg based deep house specialists Florian Kruse & Nils Nürnberg, whose tracks appear on Nick Warren's GU35 (Lima) and Hernán Cattáneo's latest Renaissance Master Series.

The house vibe continues with Layo & Bushwacka’s ‘Now Is The Time, reworked with a fine interpretation from Ralph Lawson's 2020 Soundsystem crew.

The dark, brooding and progressive "Untamed" is up next - another one of those productions that would sound fantastic in an intimate club with a state of the art soundsystem. Real heads down stuff.

The show is brought to a salutory close with the help of Mutant Clan (aka Timo Maas and Sante "Santos" Pucello), who are no strangers to Transitions listeners after the magnificent "Persuader" took over dancefloors this year before being heard to stunning effect on Bedrock 11. Like all fine wines "Malbec" brings people together, in this case two of the most successful DJs and wine drinkers of the German techno scene, Monika Kruse and Timo Maas. Together with Santos they bottle up a long awaited studio project - the resulting 'Sancerre EP' is full of rich tannins and deep, housey, trippy, percussion filled music.

Another week nearer the festive season (Warehouse Project and Fabric) and another great Transitions - we'll raise a glass to that !

    Psycatron Bio.

2009 is proving to be a landmark year for Psycatron aka Paul Hamill & Dave Lievense as they take things to the next level with a string of high profile productions being released on some of the world's most respected labels, receiving props from some of the biggest names in the business and the sales flying high in the Beatport charts.

The year began with the Location Unknown EP on Fergie's Rekluse imprint. The lead track 'Takefive' was a huge smash at the Miami Winter Music Conference with everyone from DJ Hell to Sasha (who was closing his sets it with) making it one of the biggest records of the conference.

From Belfast to Detroit is next, with the master Carl Craig signing 'Deeper Shades Of Black' for Planet E Communications making them the first Irish artist to appear on the Detroit imprint. 'Deeper Shades' spent 6 weeks in the Beatport Top 20 peaking at Number 5 with only Cirez D, Adam Beyer, Joris Voorn and Sebastian Leger standing in the way of pole position. Then from Detroit to Sao Paolo in Brazil, where Christian Smith's recently relaunched Tronic Music delivered the devastating 'Directions' and 'Tipping Point' with charts and plays coming in from everyone from Dubfire to Digweed to Dave Clarke who featured it heavily on his White Noise Radio Show. 'Directions' will be re-released with remixes later on in the year from Matt Nordstrom, Fergie & Reset Robot as well as featuring on Christian Smith's new compilation for Renaissance.

A bit closer to home and an appearance London based Simple Records demonstrated a deeper, subtle edge at the opposite end of the scale from their previous big-room releases with the 'Orchestral Manouvres In The Park' EP showing up on Will Saul's highly respected imprint.

As if the prove that getting signed to Planet E was no flash in the pan, Psycatron have recently signed a deal with legendary Belgian imprint R&S Records home to the likes of Aphex Twin, Joey Beltram and Derrick May who will release 'Is What it Is' in November. Further material is in the pipeline for Cocoon, International Deejay Gigolo, 1605, Tronic, Mija Records and Process.

Having spent the past seven years hosting their residency at the world-famous Shine and the Stiff Kitten in Belfast where they've supported some of the biggest DJ's on the planet, 2009 will be the year where Psycatron's winning combination of killer DJ sets and live shows will see them emerge as one of the biggest Irish acts of the year as their profile continues to grow on a global scale.

Psycatron are made up of BBC Radio DJ and producer Paul Hamill and super- producer Dee Lievense who has worked for every label under the sun from NRK to Plastic City.

John has been absolutely bang on the money with Transitions of late. The first 30 minutes of this went so so quickly.

Cannot wait for the Warehouse on Friday. Nice one for the write up Big Man.

^^ I think the m.o.d.e. remix would go down great in a club, it works really well in taking you to the theme without overplaying it

Will be interesting to see the reaction to their remix if Sasha or John play their version at WHP in Friday.
