Oh. My. God. James absolutely obliterated the island tonight. The last time there was so much destruction, Obi Wan Kenobi had to take a seat on the Falcon after the Death Star said "hi and bye" to Leia's homeworld.
I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.

Hi, thanks for the set. Ok, so I d/l and listened to this set. IMHO, it's definitely not the peaktime stuff. This set sounds a lot like what S&D were playing back in July when they were touring across the states... kind of deep, dark, and dare I say lifeless, except for a few standout tracks.
Maybe it's the length of the set that's the problem - I felt it finally started picking up near the end with the Laurent Garnier track bu then it was over all too soon. I would've sure like to have heard 2 more hours of this set... I'm sure that's where the real gem would've been. But seems like this set was limited to only 2 hrs from the very beginning, which is not enough time for Diggers to really get into it.
The reason why I came in asking is b/c I had just listened to John Digweed - Essential Mix - Live @ Heaven (2002-10-06) again, first time in a very long time, and I thought it blew the roof off. Of course there are a bunch of other older sets that's even better but I guess the point is that his older stuff just does it for me. the 2007 Warehouse party Ess Mix was pretty good as well so it's not just the old stuff.
Regardless, thanks - I did enjoy the set.

Si u really love this one huh? I didn't care for P-Gold at all. Pretty boring imo. I would say the perfect set to check out is Forum Beirut 2-28-04

Maybe I should change the thread to "Which really BANGY set do you recommend?"
I like deep, dark, and bangy peaktime stuff (not minimal stuff). It doesn't have to be Digweed only.
Beirut set is good but not the best IMHO. However, it's a gem b/c it's 4 hours long and you don't find those too often. I don't particularly care for the first 2/3 but with Chab U and Me, then to New Kicks, then to Philth (albeit the bad mix there), it's awesome pretty much til the end.
I'll name my favs but they're going to be old. I've been out of it for the last 2 years or so, hence the reason I created this thread.
Fav set is the 4 part Kiss series he did in 2001 in Club Yellow Japan. He said in the broadcast he did 8 hours... man what I would give to hear the entire set. Set 3 starts out sick with that really dark tune from Deep Amok (this is when he had his "Black" label).
The other ones I love are Kiss sets 30-Sept-2000 Club Code, Japan. 2 parts, both are excellent but part 2 gets really bangy.
John Digweed - Essential Mix 1995-10-28 - Live @ Tall Trees, Yarm <-- oldie but amazing, esp the last 3 tracks.
Also Kiss Eastern Exposure, Hungary 2003 set, part 2. <-- still trying to ID track 6 after 6 years Great bangy set.
Essential Selection Feb 2004 - the tie in from Philth to New Kicks is great.
john digweed - Live From Massive Ulricht Germany 02-26-2000 <-- this is the "old" diggers... it's so bangy, I love it. Wish the recording was longer and higher quality.
John Digweed - Kiss 100 09-12-2003 Live @ Centro-Fly New York Part 2
And GU006 Sydney CD2 is pretty bangy
Non-Digweed:
Parks & Wilson - Essential Mix 24-02-2002
Inkfish_-_Exclusive_Liveset_For_Djmixes2k_(April_2004)
lemon 8 (at night town 09-02-2002)
Gu008 Nick Warren Brazil is bangy
I like Sasha too, just behind Diggers but I have to be in another mindset to enjoy his sets.
Sorry my picks are so old... I just have not listened to too many recent sets.

If any DJ needs more than 2 hours just to get into it they may as well either give up, stop playing the records they where playing in them first 2 hours or get someone else to warm up for them. With the amount of music any top DJ has access to if they cant put a set together without needing serious time they should think about retiring, or getting some new records.
Maybe you should try the Faked China set. Digweed or not it was a great set.

I think it's finely crafted with some superb tracks (just as Beirut is ... although Beirut is an all time classic) ... it depends what people mean by "peak time" - John never bangs out a ton of popular hits. He draws you in and builds his sets.
But if you want banging .. hour 4 of 10.5 is banging ! The 2 x hours from Vagabond are great too.
The 4 x hours from Bedrock Easter Party 2008 are very fine too

If you haven't heard it already, I'd sincerely recommend Diggers' Essential Mix from Amnesia, Ibiza 2008. "Banging" and sublimely mixed. Or, really, any other Essential Mix from the man. Pity there wasn't one this year.
