Kiss drops Ben Watt's Buzzin' Fly Radio Show

According to Ben Watt on Twitter and the Buzzin' Fly Facebook page, Kiss are cutting their specialist show output and axing Buzzin' Fly from Jan 1st.

Shit news - for me it's the single best hour of radio out there. I think he's looking for ways to keep the show going and is asking for ideas on Facebook.

Anyone heard anything about other shows affected? I'm thinking about X-Press 2, Carl Cox & Diggers here. I'm sure Armin Van B is safe as houses

Really been enjoying the Buzzin Fly shows of late ... so this is a real shame.

Hopefully Kiss will keep a commitment to John who's now in his 10th year with them + his show now goes out to tons of countries. Coxy is a big name too and his show is syndicated abroad ... love his Space broadcasts.

Maybe advert sales plays a part.

Just shows that we should support these things where we can ... if the listeners don't take an interest or create a buzz then there's a danger that one day you wake up & the music you love won't be there.

KISS FM Gives Early Xmas Present, Axes Buzzin’ Fly Radio Show

Yesterday afternoon the twitterverse started to light up from Ben Watt and the Buzzin’ Fly crew with the surprise announcement that KISS FM decided to axe the show from its 2010 lineup. Really KISS? A two week notice is what you give major labels before dumping them? Apparently the show was cancelled due to KISS “shrinking specialist output for 2010″ as KISS pushes on for greater commercialization. Buzzin’ Fly and its show represent a major aspect to electronic music and while they are not the Essential Mix I would hardly call them specialist. They do however represent a large base of educated music lovers who know their deep house and tech roots as well as keep a keen eye out for what is new.

Ben, in an effort to continue to move forward, immediately put the topic up for discussion on the Buzzin’ Fly Facebook page. Those of you even on the fringe of this musical style might know that Ben does not produce podcasts of the shows or mixes. If you can’t get the show syndicated it doesn’t exist.

People have been chiming in and having their say in Ben’s open forum and if you like what he does you should too. It is not often that an artist allows input like this on the future of a major radio show. If you think it should stay on radio or maybe even try and convince him to start a podcast here is your chance.

If history has taught us one thing it’s that no label, no radio station will ever be able to stop Ben Watt from making and playing music. You were foolish for even trying KISS… not to mention a SCROOGE with timing.

Re: Kiss drops Ben Watt's Buzzin' Fly Radio Show

                  that's not strictly true

anyone can submit a podcast too itunes and allow subscribers too download it
                  when its available.

Tiesto's show is available as a weekly podcast download from the itunes store
and downloads automatically as I am subscriber

Paul Oakenfolds is also available in this way.

Sadly John's Transitions show isn't. Which is a bit of a shame.
It's not rocket science or hard to initiate. It just requires administration.
Given John supply's his show too kiss, proton etc I don't know why
its not up on itunes as well weekly?

I would happily administrate it for him myself lol

Re: Kiss drops Ben Watt's Buzzin' Fly Radio Show

Well the good news is that on this week's show Ben pretty much said that the show will be continuing in 2010. It will continue to be broadcast on the other stations that carry it (Ibiza Global Radio, Dynamo FM in Istanbul, Club 160 FM in Macedonia, Proton Radio & Ibiza Sonica) with the restream available through the Buzzin' Fly Website.

I have to say, not only is this brilliant news but it's Kiss' loss big time. I always prefer the restream as there are usually a 3 to 5 minutes extra music. Kiss, understandably, have an hour slot to fill with ads, Buzzin' Fly have the extra flexibility in that regard. Whilst the bit rate is lower (Kiss broadcast in 160kbps on the Sky Digital platform and online vs BF's 128kbps), I think it's worth the slightly longer show.

So bye bye Kiss, but it's still out there to enjoy guys! And do check out this week's show for the Listener's Choice 2009 Top 10 - a couple of tracks I voted for got in there
