    Nettops on the Rise

You don't need booming sales figures to tell you that netbooks have taken over the world -- the mobile computing world, at least. Their screenless and battery-free brethren, however, have yet to find quite the same success. Nettops are great tiny little machines but in general they've been under-powered and, while people love eking out another hour or two of battery life on the road, few sadly care whether their desktop computers pull down 17 or 71 watts of juice. Still, it's hard to deny the appeal of a fully-functional computer that's half the size of a Wii -- especially when it can manage 1080p output over HDMI. Viewsonic's VOT132, with its Ion graphics and trick magnetic DVD drive, is tiny, efficient, and powerful. The perfect media PC? Read on to find out. %Gallery-80890%

I won't be back until next Tuesday, so if Get Carter is the correct answer, I would appreciate of someone else posts a new cap for me

Google Chrome OS netbook, rumoured to go for USD300.

Oops, I didn't realise a nettop is a different thing.

I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.

I want to get my hands on the Dell Mini 10v, would like to install OS X on there and see how it runs.

Some nettops are crazy priced. Can't imagine paying more than $350 for one though.

        Re: Nettops on the Rise

my biggest fear with nettops is the inability to add a good video card to ensure it will tackle all hidef content thrown at it. we just bought a house and so I will be doing some expansion projects adding media pcs to more rooms (hence the hunting for a central storage location + cheap pcs to do the media streaming).

though what res0nat0r has said about his nettop playing 1080p without skipping is really very promising. that gateway is the way it looks like I'll be heading. Quad Core CPU, 4GB DDR3 RAM will ensure it throws most of what I fling it's way int he long run. I'm just trying to find a review that states it'll do 1080p without a hiccup.
