The Red Sox have reached agreement with free agent pitcher Matt Clement yesterday on a three-year deal that will pay him around $25 million, his agent confirmed yesterday.
Clement chose the Sox over seven other teams that submitted offers, and is expected to slide into the No. 3 slot in the Sox rotation, behind Curt Schilling and David Wells, an earlier free agent signing by the Sox.
Clement, 30, pitched for the Cubs last season, when he was 9-13 with a 3.68 ERA. He made 30 starts and pitched 181 innings. Lifetime, he is 69-75 with a 4.34 ERA, pitching for the Padres, Marlins, and Cubs.
